I dunno, I see that D4S press release as worthless. It's basically announcing that they'll make an announcement some time in the future and trying to make a splash at the CES show when it's not really ready for prime time.

"Further details regarding the Nikon D4S, including announcement date, availability and suggested retail price will be announced at a later date."

If it really does stay at 16MP, they better make huge gains everywhere else, and not just in video. We'll see.

I was under the impression that they were going to have the D4s on display at the show. Nikon isn't given to vaporware announcements like some of their competitors. Previous experience seems to indicate that they wouldn't say it if it wasn't so. There would be little point in releasing a body with the same mp count and minimal improvements. Guess we'll have a better idea next week.

Too darn cold to shoot anything around here these days. I should have worked harder on developing my client base in Hawaii. I did take my SCUBA tank in for recertification a week or so ago. We are developing some relationships in spots that have great diving opportunities, a little business, a little diving, sounds like a good mix.

Jim, It's there but literally under glass. It's in a plexiglass case and not available to play with or even touch. I can't remember where I read it, but I think the official announcement won't be until next month.

Want to throw this out there to the group…

A friend contacted me about helping him find pics of a particular helicopter he is building an RC model of for the scale masters competition coming up later this year. Got me thinking about how to use the network of friends who are into photography and aviation. So this is a test run of how things might go.

He is looking for a Sikorsky H-34/S-58 in the Coast Guard white/red or red/white scheme or similar brightly colored. Doesn't have to be Coast Guard but must be a brightly colored rescue variant. So the first part of this is searching the memory banks and then hard drives to find a pic of one of these birds.

The next part, once that pic is deemed the correct bird, is to do walk-around and detail shots of that heli to document that what my friend is building is correct in every way. We would supply a list of shots needed…about 20 total. Not artsy stuff…just documenting.

There was a company years ago that supplied these photo packs to "fixed-wing" scale modelers but has since gone away. I don't recall ever seeing helis in their catalog.

There is a small amount of money to be made…and I mean small. There is, however, a large niche to be filled in the RC community for this type of work.

Please PM me if you are interested or have access to the heli mentioned above. Other birds he mentioned needing photo packs for are the Apache A and D models, and the Eurocopter AS350 in as crazy a color scheme as you can find.
The RC versions BTW are huge! His contest-winner from last year, a Bell 47, is almost 8 feet long with a 10 foot rotor!!

Yes!! Had no idea that site existed! Thank you.
Still want to try to make it a group thing and put some change in everyone's pocket though!

Maybe a little more on the Nikon D4S, with a photo of it as well. The link posted near the bottom of the article seems to go to what was posted earlier on this page.

This is not my comment, but one from...

PetaPixel

It's official, the Nikon D4S is on the way! The company officially revealed that the new flagship is in development and will be available for CES attendees to try out this week.

“How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.”

BDU-50 bombs waiting on the CALA to be loaded onto AV-8B Harrier II's for practice on one of the many ranges near NAF El Centro. The BDU-50 is intended to simulate the 500 lb MK 82 general purpose bomb.

Ooh, I like it, Jay. Did you add any blur to the background, or is that SOOC?
