Who agrees with me that the 30D is a missed step by Canon? I predict slow sales from the start. I was looking forward to using it as a backup for the 5D until I saw the specs. An 8 megapix sensor.................................is Canon crazy or what? I will wait now and save my $1600 worth of disposable income. The Nikon 200D is far better in my estimation. Canon should have waited another month so they could upgrade the sensor to a little higher then the 200D. Then they would have had great sales. They are gonna loose big time. The only people that will buy are those that just have to have the latest version of a camera. I encourage everyone to keep their 20D and upgrade next year. What do you guys think? |

I don't need more megapixels on the 20D. |

I don't really care about more MP. I think 10MP would be good enough for the bracket. I never really expected a major upgrade or improvement on the new model, the only thing that suprises me is the name really. Other then that it is what most of us expected from this new camera. |

It has the ISO adjustment, which would be nice to have on both my cams instead of just the 5D |

I agree w/ Nill, a quieter shutter especially would be most welcome. Sad to see that it is still "small" and will be using the same poorly designed grip as the 20D. Even after being repaired by Canon, my grip still had electrical problems when using a long/heavy lens. Never had any problem w/ my 10D grip. |

If it's so bad, sell your 5D and lenses and buy Nikon. I bet you don't. I also think you'd be a fool to buy an incompatible Nikon as a second camera. |

I think it's a good long term move... this level DSLR is awful good. They refined a very good camera into an even better product for the same price point. They're making a paradigm shift... consumers will no longer think of DSLR bodies as something to use until something better comes along. Now consumers can start thinking about using it until it breaks. That's huge. |

I think Canon is relying on the new 17-55 to keep and get new Canon customers. I don't agree with the megapixel wars, but it sure seem that Canon and Nikon do, as do Joe consumer, so the 30d really surprises me in its subtleness. From Canon's perspective, people who buy the 30d will now want to spend more money in a year for the next upgrade, or even the 5d in a few months. Money money money.... |

Was really hoping for the 5D focusing system with the hidden AI Servo points |

10 megapixels would have been very welcome. basically i can get the same image quality out of a 350D (i do fine art photography, so burst rate and AF speed aren't of concern to me). give me a camera that can act as a master flash controller and we'll talk. |

I disagree with you. The 30D is exactly what I suspected Canon would do. Incremental upgrade, lower price. It's competing with the D70, not the D200. The larger price gap between the 5D and 1D MKII leaves room for a mini-1 Series later on. |

Huge mistake? No. Is it the camera I was hoping for? No. Does it force me to a 5D? Probably, unless I have the patience to wait. |

As others have said - the megapixel count is not really so important at this point. The upgrades that I've been reading about at Rob Galbraith's seems sound to me. And I totally agree with Neil about the shutter noise! For me the perfect upgrade from a 20D would have a nice quiet shutter, spot metering, more focusing points and perhaps better AF, built-in wireless flash controller and WiFi.... that is a perfect upgrade! |

You just can't please some people. Should we start rumors on the 40D yet or should we at least wait until everyone starts complaining that there new 30D is backfocusing? Personally I would take the additions Canon made with the 30D over 10 Megapixels anyday. The ability to change iso in the viewfinder via a button, the addition of spot metering, etc.... a lot of little nicities that add up to a much better camera. Are they reason to upgrade from a 20D, probably not, but they make a difference for those of us looking to purchase a digital camera. |
