Had these for years.

A simple eBay search for Canon center pinch lens cap

will get you these (knock-offs, of course).

For a fraction of the price, I might add.

Those Canon caps look just like the cheap ebay knockoffs you can get for $1.00!

The ebay knockoffs even come with a lens cap leash!

BTW, those eBay knockoffs aren't perfect. The Canon logo wears off over time. Still, better than the current OEM.

This is clearly why the new lense are so expensive. It's taken Canon 10 years of R&D to get those caps just right. The 24-70 f/4 is actually a $900 lens with a $600 cap.

Seems strange that they left out the 'ultrasonic' . And also changed from the gold lettering.

I had a cheap 'knock off' centre pinch canon cap back when I had a 28-70L . It looked so much like the now official canon version (maybe canon are sourcing their caps from the Chinese eBay sellers

) . It made getting the cap off so much easier in that deep hood.
I guess at the end of the day it's only a cap .

I believe the reversible design is quite innovative and may justify the cost.
