Too tight and appears to be way oversharpened. Love the character, though!

Thanks for the input so far. I agree on the sharpening - here is a 100% unsharpened version - it still looks sharpened, but it was taken on a macro lens so it's very sharp.

The crop : it's the look I went for - I personally feel cropped in it's so much stronger.

Now that's a face full of character. For me the tight crop and heavy sharpening help draw you in. I think it works really well.
