It would be nice at that MP to have a crop mode like the Nikons.

Canon already offer 3 sizes of Raw file which is a much better solution than nikons crop mode.

Which you wont see on a canon as canons ef-s lenses wouldnt work anyhow.

I was imagining that in crop mode it would give the extra "reach" like a crop cam with the obviously smaller files and corresponding FPS boost.
Probably not going to happen though since Canon seems to be married to SRAW/MRAW.

they really need to give up on sraw/mraw at this point and go to crop mode which are actually more useful at this point, a cam like that, get your reach shots and space with crop mode but sraw and mraw are useless for that and they don't help you get more fps either

i just hope they are not too proud or whatever

Nice, at least some progress in the Canon camp if this is finally true. Unfortunately another 1 series hyper expensive camera body I am afraid. No competitor to D800 still. But at least some progress in getting out a better sensor. Let's see what happens next month. BTW, where are now all the fanboys who shouted loud against when I predicted that such camera could be announced in 2012?

That picture has been doing the rounds for years! It's 1000000000% fake!

It's as real as this:

The 40mm/1.2 doesn't look big enough to be right...

Dan

Yes. It looks like a DPR shot of a 50/1.4 from long ago.

EBH

Can you find that shot from DPR?

You want it on a crop?

Certainly possible...

That photo (rumor) is pap-@$$ cr@[]D.

Look at the image they offer up, since when the hell has Canon offered the EOS-1/N-style depth-of-field button? I cite that because it's something I want Canon to bring back, the little pin you can poke with your pink, from the right side.

Well even if this BS were true, you really think now Canon has some amazing new sensor tech ready to go?

They need to add 2 stops of DR just to catch up with Sonikon.

I'm really hoping this camera will be the "Canon D800", but I'm not celebrating before I've seen it.

Actually Canon introduced 50MP and 120 MP (APS-H) sensors years ago:

The reason we haven't seen those is the production cost. But who knows - maybe the time has come finally..

Why are you guys obsessing about the photo? Who cares? I think we've all seen it at this point.

What matters are the specs, and they look right on to me.

I have no doubt Canon has the ability to cram a lot of megapixel in a sensor. The only question is whether it's commercially viable or not.

The accompanying technology to produce high dynamic range or less noise in high ISO is a totally different story though. I don't know whether Canon can do that or not.

The final question is of course how much Canon will charge for it and what feature they'll keep or cripple in order to place this camera between 1DX and 5D3.

Or they could just rename it 1DXs and charge more for it.

Didn't Canon say in a interview that it wasn't possible for them to currently offer a sensor with more resolution because it would cause negative affects?

The reason we haven't seen those is probably because they only have 7 - 9 stops of DR and rainbow colored banding.

Canon can't release a high MP sensor before they learn how to improve the IQ.

I really like the eye control on the original 3. Be great to have a new version. Agree with Stan; 40 something mill is a realistic expectation for a ff sensor.
