Looks like the 5D III demand is higher because D800 is having Left AF issues .

Soon people will be saying that Canon is falling apart and is desperate for profits, hence the return to the launch price. Probably the same people who said Canon was desperate for profits and lowered the price (when it is retailers who are setting the prices (all different)).

Well, you can take the D800 and rotate it upside down when the subject is on the left. It is not very convenient when handheld though. The 5D III has relatively low resolution, so AF does not have to be quite as accurate.

oh damn guess i was wrong so that is why they call it focus peaking and not peeking

anyway it couldn't hurt to offer both focus peaking and focus peeking

i have seen some implementations where you get a zoomed in box on top of the full fov

But yeah, so Focus Peking it is.

isn't the messed up left focusing on the D800 for manual focusing through the VF only?

not that that is great by any means, it's an issue, but it's not as bad as the AF gone bad or if the VF had a screen that allowed for decent manual focusing through it (i've heard various claims, some that the D800 doesnt allow the screen to be swapped ala 5D3 and others saying it does)

or maybe it has both AF and MF messed up on the left
(it has liveview focus messed up even in the center )

i think it uses fixed focus like an ancient P&S
