I don't believe you can turn this off/on in LR. LR automatically rotates to portrait if the EXIF data reports that is how it was shot. It may be that you don't have the Auto Rotate selected in you camera menu. If not selected, it may not write the orientation data to EXIF, therefore not automatically change in LR. |

There are typically 2 settings in the camera to rotate the image. One for the camera LCD (Rotate Tall) and the other for image display (Auto Image Rotation as mfletch said) |
