The curious issue of monitors, resolution and colors plagued this weeks entry. I had the perfect version of this shot prepared for entry and uploaded on my web site. All I needed to do was submit......
Then I viewed the image again on my home computer..... uck!!!! All the shadows and subtle shading were mush!!!
This sent me on a three day odyssey of reviewing the image on different computers and monitors - every one was different. I ultimately recomposed and re-edited the photograph and submit this photo below... it is NOT the better shot on my office machine. It is the better shot on MOST computers.
As computer based photographers we DO NOT CONTROL the image you see.... your computer and monitor do.
The texture and shading looks good on the 4 computers that I have viewed it on. However, the color seems more orange and purple than red. Interesting shot. Just our of curiosity, was the shape (figure) something you saw before you took the picture, or was it a discovery once you viewed the image?
Evan - I am really perplexed by your comments and I think I may have a "faulty" computer that I relied too much upon in making the final submission decision.
How is the color and shading in the above photo? Which of the two is more "red?" Can you still see the subtle shading (ripplingof the cloth) in the "waist line" of the above photo? Or is it over-saturated?
As to the design. No, the original photo is considerably larger and has a top nearly identical to the piece you see. This large crop created the "feminine figure" you see. This IS NOT the originally intended shot at all.... it all happened in the computer.
The second picture is more red, but does loose some of the texture and shadows that the first one has.
I know that there is a whole science of color calibrating computer monitors, but I have avoided it so far. Before I got into the forum I didn't care if my monitor was a little off. I found the software to be more problematic than helpful. However, if you have one monitor that is substantially different from the others, it might warrant some investigation. I would be interested to know how many forum users have calibrated monitors and what type of calibration they use.
Maybe if you didn't use Corel . . .
By the way, I think your first post was the better picture, just not as red.
