My active interest in photography began in
1998. After several changes in my life I
found myself in a position to immerse
myself in learning and practicing the art.
Being the youngest of seven children (all
of whom have varied artistic talent), I found
that my creative outlet was the medium of
photography. Naturally I chose the scenic
beauty of the Northwest as my inspiration.
Originally I started with a simple 35mm
camera and film, exploring the areas of
the state my father loved - the Oregon
Coast and the forests of the state -
particularly the Columbia River Gorge.
With a great amount of zeal and
excitement I worked diligently to create
beautiful images to share with my family
and friends. Through this learning period I
experienced some disappointments and a
few successes, but it only encouraged me
to further improve my art and learn more.
Eventually I settled on films and
equipment to advance to some degree of
personal satisfaction and enjoyment.
Along the way I met many great friends
and photographers I still learn from to this
day. Around 2005 I experienced a total
loss of my then beloved Canon EOS 1V
and professional lens to a mishap along a
Gorge stream. I replaced the loss with my
first digital camera, and have never looked
back. The ability to work with digital in the
digital darkroom of my home only
increased my passion. Soon as I was
doing my own printing, along with mat
cutting and here of late, frame building.
Late last year I probably made the most
significant purchase of my career - the
high-quality Canon 5D Mark II - an
amazing piece of technology. The
improved processing and resolution of this
high megapixel camera amazes me in so
many ways. I have marketed prints for
some years now, but in the end the true
reward and pleasure from my endeavors
has been the enjoyment of nature, and
sharing these images as I have from the
beginning, with family and friends. I hope
