Forget about sharpness. Both those lenses are more than sharp enough for anyone's need. I had both and sold the 40-150mm for the following reasons:

- It renders with much more depth than the zoom.
- The bokeh of the 75mm is always great, with the 40-150mm it's more unpredictable.
- It's almost pocketable as opposed to the zoom which is huge and has a huge hood.
- It's more or less half the price.
- It's more than a stop faster.

The 75mm is one of the greatest lenses ever, regardless of brand and manufacturer. The 40-150mm is merely a very good lens.
