Re: Recommended UWA for a D7100

Even though the OP seems to have already made a decision......

....I\'ve had the Sigma 10-20, Nikkor 10-24 and now the Tokina 11-16. I dumped the Sigma because I wanted something that would cover 24mm on a film camera. I dumped the Nikkor because I had to send it in to the shop for three months (the shop screwed up), got the Tokina in the interim and liked the Tokina better.

Between the Nikkor and Tokina, I doubt you\'ll notice much a sharpness difference, especially when counting for sample variation (though Thom Hogan liked the 11-16 before he dumped DX. Others also say the 11-16 is a bit sharper). I think either of those two will perform as well as, perhaps better than, anything similar that exists, i.e. you won\'t get a DX wide/ultrawide lens better than them.

The 11-16\'s objective \"better feature\" is f/2.8, while the 10-24\'s \"better\" feature is 18-24. I found neither of those advantages terribly useful and shoot the 11-16 around f/8, where my copy always performs well. I also found any of the Nikon 18-XX VR zooms more useful than the 10-24 at the 18-24mm focal length.

I also like the subjective performance of the 11-16 more than the 10-24- its color rendition, better \"sunstars\", etc.
