regarding the tripod collar on the 300mm - if you aren\'t opposed to a little tinkering and a non-original tripod collar, there are quite a number of options. I just ordered an aftermarket collar meant for a Canon 70-200mm

Just takes a little bit of extra material on the inside of the collar to make it snug.
