Yes it's certainly going back. I've been in contact with Sony this morning. They'll collect mine and I hope to have a new copy by the end of next week. If that one also has problems, it's goodbye Sony for me.
Ofcourse I agree about the sloppy QC. Just send everyting out and hope you won't get many returns.
