I really believe it's the strap that makes the lens comfortable all day. I have a Luma Cinch Strap attached to a RRS L bracket and it is a perfect fit. It hangs over my shoulder and I can cinch it up to where the lens is laying in the small of my back and really secure when I'm carrying and not shooting, but can be ready to shoot in two or three seconds.

The 24-70 is on of the sharpest lenses Nikon offers. I would rather carry a few extra ounces than sacrifice sharpness.
