Re: Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II reviewed by Photozone

Dang! I'm really starting to think the lens decentered, at least somewhere below 35mm, I think it may be ok L vs R at 35mm and 50mm but at 24mm man dang it may be my first clearly different L vs R L lens. Figures the only L I ever got on a rush before a trip too.

Let me test some more. I guess I can still swap back to my not yet sold 24 1.4 for 24mm and then use it from 30/35-70mm until I get an exchange later on. And do a constant swap, swap, swap game. But man $2300 is PRIMO $$ for a 24-70, so a L vs R difference is kinda a bit disappointing on any copy.

I will note that the lens does seem to fight purple fringing amazingly well, at f/8 24mm you can get a little still with 24 1.4 II shooting forest with patches of blown out white sky showing through but the 24-70 II actually seems to do that clean, no PF at all even under that extreme situation. At least in the center it seems pretty sharp and contrasty 24-70mm wide open.
