Hi Anthony ,, I wish I could find a plugin that can do this well I dont really as I would be out of a job ,, using Photoshop its called smudge painting and there are many ways that people do it ( google it ) , I build up color and block it in over top of the photo which I use as an under painting like a traditional artist will do , then with the smudge tool and other PS brushes some I custom made build the form and shape the features , then finish of with tweaks for color and lighting , this piece took about 5 hrs to complete .
I use a 6x8 graphire wacom tablet an intuous 3 is on my to get list , my printer is a HP130 designjet large format , it will print 2 ft wide by as long as you want , Im very happy with this printer it was much much cheaper than the epsons which I just couldnt afford , I was a little concerned when I first bought it being at the cheaper end even though the reviews really rapped it up , now that I have it my concerns are gone it prints glorious posters is very economical and handles cotton canvas media no problems at all and it dont clog heads even after sitting a mth or more , I print all my paintings on Canvas seal protect them with a Krylon gloss which gives them a mild sheen and then wrap them on stretcher frames , this particular portrait was printed at 22inch x 18 , they come out very impressive printed in these sizes , the canvas gives them a quality like they are on velvet .
Yes Jody the background is love hate thing with the ladys , most men like it a few dont but you carnt please everyone this background was done for a purpose to tie the cap into the portrait and the guy has army ties .
I thought you had to use Corel Paint og something like that. Didnīt know you could do such a beautiful work in PS alone. Wish I had a bit more artist genes.
I do have Painter Claus , and its a great program , its just that I have used PS dailly for so many years that its like second nature to me and you can do just about anything that can be done in Painter if you know your way around the PS brush pallete , plus PS is so much more responsive than Painter when both are using dynamic brushes , at least on my machine it is .
Photoshop is a fantastic drawing and painting program , check out what the Matt painters do with it , awesome , photograhpers just dont go into that area with it .

I am really fascinated by the debate on Painter and Photoshop. Any links to Matt Painters?
