Must be an awesome lens, but it looks too expensive ($7980 US). One sold less than a year ago in [E+] condition, for $ 2900 US. The other most recent sale I've seen was in 2013, when one in [M] condition sold for $ 3425 US.

Maybe awesome and exceedingly rare.

I do know that this one isn't on my list, but I have a search for one and maybe it'll be cheap

It'll be interesting to know if it sells, and the price.

I'll tag it for Lens$db. I don't think it'll sell for the current BIN price.

Right, selling the other lenses will help me self-justify having spent so much on the APO-Lanthar. Guilt--a little, regrets--none.

What camera are you going to be using it with? I tried a mintish copy of the Pentax on an a7R and a7R II. Just wasn't near as good as my K 28/3.5. Wondering if it's just a bum copy.

Peire, how is the wide open performance of the OM 180/2.8 at MFD (Sharpness and bokeh) compared with the Nikon 180/2.8 ED, which usually comes top in this range? I'm looking for this FL for use on bellows, wide open, for "artistic" close ups. Other suggestions welcome,(though, at moment I only have OM bellows having foolishly sold my Nikon PB4, but thinking of re-buying if Nikon ED is much the best.)

OM 180/2.8 has significantly more bluish LoCA wide open than the Nikkor 180/2.8 ED.They are easily removable though and the lens is pretty sharp across the A7M2's frame at f2.8.I had no time to carry on side by side comparison, but it seems that their sharpness wo is comparable.Oof blurr is nice and smooth in both cases.

I took some wide open pictures with the A7M2+OM 180/2.8 yesterday that are to be published soon.

Well, all my search into 180/2.8 lenses for close work, led me to an old (1990 design) Sigma APO Macro 180/2.8 AF with huge 82 and 10 aperture blades!
Far heavier than intended,(1.5KG!) but it is for a specialised purpose, and the price was good at 225, with two tiny specs of fungus behind the front optic, which I hope will be easy to clear.
Could only find 3 short reviews, (Dyxum) but all excellent.
In Sony A mount, so a manual aperture change adapter required, to E mount, (thankfully it has the necessary aperture lever), and I only intend to focus manually, so I don't need an expensive LA-EA3 adapter.
Quite a saving on the modern OS version which is well over 3x that price, even "used", though of course it also focusses to 1:1, this one to 2:1, which is fine.

I just got a nice copy of a Vivitar (Komine) 135 2.8 Close Focusing with an FD mount. It didn't come with a front cap, and I don't have a 62mm filter, so I hesitate to put it in a bag and really take it around. Just around the back deck, it does have some purple and green fringing, maybe soft-ish wide open at distance (seems sharper wide open close up). Bokeh nice at wider apertures, but maybe not so nice stopped down. I'm guessing f4/5.6 will be a sweet spot. One of these days I'll have to test it against the also-recent Konica Hexanon 135 3.2 and the Mayer Orestor 135 2.8 that is still on the way. Might not keep the Hexanon unless it is better than these others for general use. The Hexanon 135 3.2 is pretty good for a $50 lens.

I used to have this lens in C/Y mount and it was very good optically. However I could't stand the placement of the tripod collar, which made operating on focus/aperture rings inconvenient. So I have sold it.
It's tiny, slower sister the Sigma Apo Macro 180/5.6 1:2 is still in use and I will never part with it.

Peire, as every review I've read about it mentions that, if all goes as hoped with using the Novoflex adapter, I plan to remove the lens tripod mount (it appears to be held on with four screws), and use a Novoflex ASTAT-NEX Adaptor Mount Ring:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221893335106?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Nice to know the lens has another thumbs-up for performance. I just hope it is as clear inside as the seller said, as most on eBay report haze (balsam separation) in one of the couplets. I'll also have to do something about the zen finish. Although it hasn't gone sticky yet, it marks terribly. I'm wondering about the feasibility of fitting a clear, shrink-wrap sleeve over it.

I just picked up Minolta MC PF 55/1.7 & W.Rokkor HG 35/2.8. I started to pull the trigger on the 58/1.2 but I'm reluctant to spend the money.

Go on, pull the trigger, it's a nice lens to have in the bag for when you need it.

I'll second that. You can always sell it if doesn't suit and count the fees as "hire cost".

It is so "special" that I've just picked up my second one, a late model Ser # 2766xxx, to compare with my older, "radioactive" one, Ser # 2511xxx. I'll sell-on the one I like least.

The prices are rising, (and Sterling falling ), I bought the first for 280 about 6-7 years ago, the best I could do this time was 340. Both in beautiful condition.
