I have looked around, but only found a couple of older threads focusing on a single version of this lens, so I thought I would start a new image and discussion thread on FM for these fantastic lenses. As far as I am aware, there are 3 Nikon 200mm f/2 lenses (where does one look up the official names of old Nikon lenses?):
I am not sure why Nikon chose to drop the IF part in the VRII edition, as the lens is almost identical to the VR lens, apart from VRII (4 stop benefit instead of 3 stops), nano-crystal coating (less flare) and the addition of the A/M mode (to stop inadvertent manual focus changes). Oh, and the black plaque with gold letters instead of a gold plaque with black letters...
In any case, although there is a huge two-part thread over on Nikoncafe (part 1 and part 2), I know far more people here, and prefer to stick with one forum, hence this thread.
My daughter just woke up and wants me to read for her, so I have time only for a couple of quick photos from a test run through the Zoo, and one from my office. I will be back with more as I get to know the lens better, and have more time to get out with it.

Yes, I know exactly how expensive, having just bought one second-hand Don't worry, keeping one kid out of college should do it. No biggie. I would have loved the VRII version, but there was just no way.

and found it in 30 seconds. Oh, punch a small vent hole in it so any condensation can't get trapped.
