More great shots.

Unfortunately the nex 6 power zoom is awful and the 10-18 looks bad too outside of this thread. How much border cropping are you guys doing with that lens.

SEL1018 is a good lens. I rarely crop it. At 10mm your corners are very sensitive--but very carefull focus and stopped down I think the corners are OK. Pretty solid from 12mm up.

that's 10mm
In fact I think DXO or somebody has it as the best of all the sony zooms--not including newest. To my mind it's a must have, unless you own a CV 12mm. The sigma 8-16 is just as good but really big and heavy.

But alas it is APS-C

uhoh7 -that's a beaut of a shot, what sharpening script are you using for your workflow? (resize / shapen). I've just picked up a LEE big stopper, gonna give it a whirl on this lens at weekend.

Thatnks again for the info. Wealth of onowledge.

I have access to the Grand Canyon this weekend - yes seriously (a friend is a resident of the national park who holds a pretty important position in education). He basically told me we will go wherever, there aren't rangers who would bother us. We can't however go down unfortunately. Bit his back door is the rim.

So I had the lens on overnight but rethought it...now I guess I'll have to buy it locally before I leave. Maybe he sameples I saw were particularly bad. I've see so me great results here. But let's be frank, photographers are here. Test samples with crooked angles and boring subjects /little post while possibly hideous probably represent a lens better. The skill here covers a lot of flaws. And this thread is monster for skill.

I am having a reALLY hard time leaving behind my 5dii for this trip. But we're walking everywhere and we've been over my back problems.

The one other problem is, I don't won't he nex 6 yet, it's borrowed. Lol.

The question for me is..,the touit 12mm is not that much more and If I hope to get the most detail possible, I wonder if that's a better buy. At 18mm af speed is not relevant to me. I'm trying to find touit images in this plethora of wonder. But having a tough time.

Of course I am open to mf legacy lenses but I haven't seen very many good examples of something that wide.

The world is about to change. Since you love the 5D, I would not recommend investing in any APS-c lens, including touit. The new Sony full frame emounts are only weeks away from introduction. You might not get one right away, but I bet you have one in the near future.

On those cameras 18 mm gives the same FOV as 12mm on the nex 6. Of course, we have no idea if the new sensors are going to work well with the small M and LTM Mount Wide angles. But we are going to know very soon.

Cv 12 and 15mm jump to mind.

The other question on the Touit, how does it do at infinity? The zeiss 24 mm is not good enough at infinity, but really excellent at shorter distances. So you have to watch out for that.

There are also the wider zooms for canon and nikon, which may be great on the new cameras. The cheaper A7 (aka nex ff) will be around 1600 for the body. It's weather sealed. That last thing is huge outdoors. I can't even believe my 5n still works!

But today, the SEL1018 is awful nice. It's light, and gives u flexibility. The touit will go indoors nicely, at 2.8. Both will loose value right after purchase. So, I'd advise u to hang on a month.

I can't wait to see how the zm18 does on the new machines.

@joevain. Ty, sir. Nothing special in LR for sharpening, and I export from raw to JPEG, then up to flickr. In that shot I had huge dynamic range. So I had to do major shadow recovery, and highlight reduction. Makes me really happy that you guys find it reasonably sharp :-)

Jim - nice street shots & Trade Center tower!
Ronny - wow - great colours, clarity, pop!

LT with FDn 24/2.8 (more barrel distortion, I'm wondering if it's an LT feature...), most at 2.8 or a stop down:

alan_m, I like the ladies with the umbrellas...

I tried my luck with some reflections today.

These are both with a NEX7 and a G45 at f2.

Here's a couple of shots from Skuleskogen national park in the middle of the High Coast area of Sweden. A very photogenic place, but unfortunately my father and I could only stop for a few hours. All of the photos were taken with a NEX-7 and Contax Zeiss 25/2.8.

Hey, I like seeing the photos people take with the native zooms!

I am on the fence with the Minolta. I like it, but I'm too slow with manual focus, esp. if I'm out hiking with other people...

I'm still eyeballing the OMD. The 16-70 Zeiss looks great for NEX, but there's still not a great native macro lens option, and Oly has the well-reviewed 60mm.

Really wish someone would make a contemporary AF 35-70 w/ macro at the 70 end for NEX. (C'mon Zeiss)

Pen F 42mm 2.8

Michelle and Ebookman what is the max aperture on the Minolta 35-70 I assume you are using the same lens??
Later it was mentioned that there is an AF 35-70, do you know if that is a lens that Minolta made later?
thanks joanlvh

Michelle, why don't you try the Minolta 35-70 AF with the la-ea2 adapter? That way you'd have af and a very nice 35-70 lens (very compact as well). Maro still at 35, though.

@Joan, mine is the f/3.5 MD version... Not AF. It's got macro at 70mm which is very handy.

@Xavier, that's not a bad idea, esp. if Sony will release a new body in the next year that suits me. I still really want the EVF and a touch-screen, otherwise I can't find a good reason to move past my 5N. I would hope the newer bodies focus better than 5N with the LA-EA2?

I start feeling bitchy about my NEX, and then we go out with a short stout tripod (was his name Benro?), have a few drinks and a good time, and I am sorry I said bad things about her.

These are either with E-24mm or E-50mm and CPL. Leaves and moss, all lost in my own Mad Season (on Madden Creek).
