yup, works fine for me.

edit: i never use it though since the NEX doesn't have a button for exposure lock.

It appears that you can. You can set the camera to spot meter with an alternative lens attached, and it does seem to meter differently compared to matrix metering, and meter consistent with what I would expect from a spot meter.

If I recall correctly, it does have a spot meter mode. I haven't tried it however, or felt the need for it. Using the NEX is really a "what you see is what you get" experience. I mostly shoot manual, and adjust either shutter speed or aperture until I like what I see on the LCD screen. That's part of what I enjoy most about using my NEX-5.

Me too, although I use center weighted metering.

Is anyone using Zeiss ZE lens on their NEX-if so, what adapter would you recommend?

Zeiss ZE lenses don't have an aperture ring, so using them on NEX will be a challenge. From what I understand, you can mount the lens on a Canon camera, set the aperture, and then remount on NEX and it will hold the aperture. Or, there is a adapter out there that has aperture blades built in,.but it doesn't seem that great from what I've seen.

Ultimately, you're better off with ZF, ZS, ZK or Contax C/Y.

I've read a lot of post on NEX, and i ended with the feeling that it is possible to have brilliant lenses (MF) and decent size (NEX philosophy) in a normal/short telephoto range like 55mm to 90mm equivalent.
This means of course using 35mm to 58mm lenses + 1.6X APS-C factor.

So my main interest in the NEX is using it as a very small lightweight, with high quality lens in the 35-40mm (already converted). Oh...and preferably at least f2.8.

So do we have a 20mm to 25mm f2/2.8 small and lightweight lens that can be used on the NEX without corner color shifts or excessive loss of sharpness?

My lightweight standard is a Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 M mount with the corresponding 8mm adapter.
Canon mount adapter is so large that makes me avoid EF lens. Or FD.

That is the big question. I've seen good reports of the ZM 25/2.8, but I haven't used it myself. The new Zeiss wide-angle coming out for NEX is rumored to be a 24mm f1.7, so it may be worth the wait.

p.s. the NEX sensor is a little bigger than Canon's APS-C sensor, so its crop factor is actually 1.5x

One should assume that a Zeiss 24mm f1.7 designed for the NEX is a compact one ?
With such a large aperture i am afraid we get a similar ZM 25/2.8 one...which is too big for my purposes.

What about the Zeiss Biogon 21mm F/2.8 Contax G?
Or better yet the Zeiss Biogon 28/2,8 Contax G , that is small !! I could live with a 42mm equivalent...

Contax G 21mm won't mount on NEX. The 28mm has gotten some good reviews, but it does have some corner smear at some apertures, from what I understand.

This photo shows the size of the new NEX Zeiss (in black.) It is the same diameter, but a little shorter, than the NEX kit zoom (on the right.)

Great set KL. I especially like the blue glass building. What c/y lenses and adapter did you use? I want to try my c/y's on my nex 5 too.

Thx. Mainly 28 f2.8, 50 f1.7 and 135 f2.8.

I used the Rayqual adaptor - awesome build quality but pricey http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=41&products_id=394

Cheers

Douglas, I have seen adverts for adapters that specify taht they are suited to Distagon 21 on NEX. Don't know how true it is, though...

KL, lovely set of pics!

My usual Zeiss ZM 35c Biogon f:2.8...

Douglas,

I have read some posts at dprevirew from a guy that claims he successfully adapted the 21mm Biogon f2.8 Contax G to the NEX. He had to cut some of the mount, didn't specify how. However the lens exhibited color shift and mudge in the corners.

KL,
Your C/Y 28 f2.8 needs corner correction ? Or are the pictures straight OOC?
How is the sharpness compared to a Canon mount for instance?

contax g 21mm can be mounted via metabones and kipon adapters - you have to cut off couple mm from the rear plastic shields. 28mm works fine. wide open has some color shift in corners, which goes away when closed down.
