FS: Nikon 200-400MM F4 G-AFS-VR Lens (Version 1) I purchased this lens new from B&H Photo on 3/14/07, and I have the original receipt that shows the serial number of the lens. It is a USA lens! I also purchased a Wimberley Replacement Foot – which fits this lens or the Nikon 500 F4 lens. If you are reading this you are almost certainly aware that Nikon has released an updated version of this lens. There has been some discussion about how much better the new version is but nevertheless the one I am selling is the original version. The lens is in excellent to mint condition. There are no scratches, nicks, scrapes on the lens anywhere – not even on the front edge where the hood mounts and the hood is in excellent condition without any defects. The glass is as new – front and rear. I seldom used this lens – it was mounted on my camera no more than twenty times. The reason for my selling it is: primarily because I don’t use it, and a secondary reason is I need the money. I am located in Wilmington, NC 28403. I have watched the B&S forum here at FM for a while to gauge how much this lens is worth. I will sell the lens, with the Wimberley Replacement foot attached (the Nikon one is included also), and everything that came with the lens new including the original brown Nikon box for: $4,100. The buyer must pay actual shipping charges and any fees associated with the payment so that I net $4,100. This is a very reasonable price. No, it’s not the latest version of the lens but it’s priced (with the Wimberley foot) $1,649. Less than the B&H price for V 1, and $2,979. Less than the B&H price for V 2.
This is offered for sale ONLY in the United States. I do not want to trade anything and the price is not negotiable at this time. Lower offers will be ignored. I can send photos of the lens to anyone seriously considering purchasing the lens. I have a Kinesis bag for the lens that is in mint condition – which I will offer to the purchaser of the lens for $100., plus actual shipping – but of course there’s no obligation to buy the bag. My Nikon D300 with this lens mounted will fit in the bag – it’s a little tight but it works. Thanks for reading this – I know it’s longggggg! E – mail is preferred.

Kurtzhao,
Thanks for the comment. I honestly tried to price this lens to make it sell - and not to squeeze every cent I could out of it. I am not sure it will sell at the listed price but I felt that was attractive enough price to put it at the lower end of used prices for this lens - and it's in excellent to mint condition!

Your price is very attractive! Good luck on the sale. I used this lens before and it was amazing. I don't quite have that much cash but regardless that is a steal at that price! Good luck on the sale.
Tarheel and I emailed or PM'd a couple times when he originally listed this lens. It seemed to me he was a gentleman, answered my questions in a timely fashion, and I would have bought his lens (at the original price!) except I decided on a prime (300 VR). If I find some extra cash, I'm buying this, but for anyone looking, this looks like a really good deal.
No, have not seen the lens yet, myself, but am sorely tempted, again. Just a plug for what seems a good deal. And someone buy it before my wife cuts up my credit cards.
Thanks Guys for the comments - I think some potential buyers are skeptical because of the price - a little too good so there's got to be something wrong - right? I have always sold used items lower than the going market price and usually they sell quickly. The price is low so there is no wiggle room - I can't take a lower offer. I won't tell anyone "you better hurry up and buy this before so and so buys it" - I don't have a lot of feedback but for anyone interested we can go slow and I will work with anyone (using accepted conventional standards) to make them feel secure in the purchase. That's a lot of money regardless of the "good buy" and the buyer must feel confident.
This is a great price for the VR I. I thought that the price for a used VR I would hold at about $4800 because of the $7000 pricetag for the VR II. I think that the price difference between the VR I and VR II is pretty steep for the new upgrades.
I would have bought it if it were offered outside the USA. As soon as I saw the amendment that it was only for the USA, I didn't bother going any further. The price is very competitive, and I don't think that is what is holding the interest of many back.
The fact there are no images showing that the lens and sundry items, and what it appears like condition wise would be a greater reason for buyer hesitation.
The first offer to purchase the lens at the advertised price was from Harshaj1. I am in the process of sending him photos of the lens and if they meet his approval he will forward payment. With the holiday weekend this will take a little longer than it normally would. If for some reason he decides not to purchase the lens then I offer it to the second person who offered to buy it. No favorites played here - just going with offers in the order received but of course they must promptly follow through with payment. If it is again "For Sale", I will post that here but it seems highly probable that the lens is no longer on the market.
Thanks for all the interest.
It's interesting that a few months ago I offered this lens for $4,500., including shipping and insurance anywhere in the US and I never had a bite. I dropped the price $300., and I have had six or seven offers to buy it! Oh well, I am happy to sell it and content with the current price.
