Back to the PP on the Azores photos. Here's some from S. Jorge island, taken with the 85/1.4 AIS.

It takes a special kind of stupid to stand in front of a raging bull.

Awesome shots. I'm guessing that the guy in the 2nd to last shot ended up in the drink!

Tom! You're back! I've missed seeing your shots here
Just last week I had a conversation with a friend which took a turn towards selling insects in a market
Guess who I thought of

Yep, I'm here! I spent the better part of the last year shooting a new pair of Fujifilm medium format rangefinders. Bloody expensive pieces of gear, but the IQ simply is astonishing, almost surreal. Some of the prints I brought back from Japan simply were the very best photographs I have ever produced in my life.

Heh heh...those insect markets are a gas. I found a new one this weekend, and also in that market were about 200 chip monks for sale! I took a shot of them with my Nikon so stay tuned to this thread. The film will be in hand later this weekend. I hope it came out as I was not sure if the shop keeper would like me taking that photo, so I snapped it real quick.

So I took a few days off to realize I am about 30 pages behind. So much to catch up on and from what I have seen stellar work everyone!!!

Nothing drastic here other then work has been killing me and I got a new nice tripod setup so cant wait to take a drive up the coast and put it to use with some landscape work!

My usual contribution for the day!

Leighton, Andy and Ken, thanks for the feedback. No filters were used, so it must have been a case of the corners doing their mischevious thing.

I imagine a Noct would clear up a lot of these issues, but that's a lot of coin for an older lens. John's story about the lack of parts and service for his lens leaves me feeling a bit cautious about going in that direction. We'll see.

Yep, they just confirmed it's already being shipped back. What a pain. My D800 needs some mount adjusting and I think I won't even give Nikon a shot at it - I've had good luck with APS in the past and I think I'll go with them again.

I have been able to get a 8mm 2.8 and a 15mm 3.5 cleaned, and elements replaced in the 15mm at very different prices, two years ago Nikon Los Angeles charged me $70 to clean my multi thousands of dollars 8mm. Then they charged $400 to clean my 15mm 3.5 ais in 2013, this last lens had hazy elements and it took three resends before they replaced the elements. They claimed the lens was already performing 100% and needed nothing further.

To Nikon's 'defense' they can probably clean your lens but are afraid to get into a tug of war if it has damaged coatings and they have no parts to make it 100%.

Our busy (polluted) night sky.

First image has 10 satellites visible during a 30 second exposure.
The second image only has 3.

Here in the PNW it's almost impossible to get a shot like this that doesn't have some sort of satellite or high altitude plane in it. But, I must not lose perspective - it's a good problem to have since it means I'm out in the mountains!

10 Visible Satellites

ONLY 3 Visible Satelllites

You want polluted? Come to Shanghai and see pollution so horrific it will scare you *^hitless. Seriously, about 50% of the days I lock my kids up, not allowing them outside.

I'd give anything for skies like the ones you are showing us.

These night skies are fantastic guys. Have to say the 16 f/3.5 really shines. Even with slight blurring from star trails the image is delightful. Thanks for sharing these John and Peter... and I won't forget Nuno's delightful night sky photos. Wonderful work everyone.

I am lost for words for these night photos! Something I never tried as Belgium is just like a big city.

I am also very happy that my nikkor h85 has just arrived, just in time to join me in my two weeks to France. For such an old lens, my copy is amazingly clean and well maintained.

*** WARNING LENS PORN ***

Since it is impossible to get anything 'bout photo done till my trip, I decided to join the lens porn trend. I am almost ashamed to say that this lens is probably older then me. Still, apart from little body marks, it is still in great shape and first random tests show a very exciting lens to use.

All photos done with the AIS138/2.8 at f/2.8 on D800 and processed with VSCO Scala+

UPDATE: based on the serial this lens is probably from 1971 or 1972. It makes it one or two years older than me. And probably in better shape.

Tom, yes, that guy on the second shot did end up jumping into the water, as many other did. The bull this time didn't follow them, but sometimes it does. This is a tradition in Azores islands during the summer festivities.

Here's a few more, again with the 85/1.4 AIS.

Chin like the tarmac - age reference. Would need a big airport for me!~

John the poles were too big for me ... some line and a rock over a tall branch was the extemt of my "protection." I like the recent shots and the human perspective you put into each. Also FWIW, KEH has a repair service that I can't comment on but with their aggressive purchase policy I would think they ought to have parts.

Dua using the 43-86 I got last week was a bit of a shock and a lens that is a lot better than publicized. You've done well!

Peter my trips to rehab are inspired by my memories on the hiking trails and your photo's fuel it.

Philippe very nice capture of the Hospitaliers and their historical role in the early mid ages

Steve how does it get any netter than a Lagonda with a AOFB ornament. This is the making of a "Top Gear" episode if you ask me.

Buddy sad to hear about Charly who comes through as having a lot of class. Very nice memorial.

Nuno ... what Rattymouse said. Nice work with the 85, especially the focus. The gazers looking on shot says it all.

Andy well done capturing the grand old building and happy to hear that there is new life and use for the old station.

Raphael the 1.4 is showing its stuff nice views of the C3 too!

Learning to find subjects is a task that needs inspiration. The post today will show creative use of the PK13 tubes, the first capture of a Milky Way. A free avatar to anyone thinking they may need something like it. Lastly a "BUD" for Leighton!
