This is what has been occupying my time lately. My other love is vintage audio. I am in the process of restoring my late aunt's old 1974 vintage Marantz 2015. One of the capacitors is dead and another dying. Have some soldering to do once I can source the parts. I will replace all 6 you can see here.

D7000, 55/2.8 Micro @ f/8 I believe.

Also of note, everything on this unit is 100% original. That may or may not be a good thing.

NMFAS won again:

Bought by impulse, at very good prices, the venerable 80-200/4.5N AI:

and the "first wide angle zoom" 28-45/4.5 AI:

The first will be subject of the "battle of 80-200mm zooms"
80-200/4.5 AI original; 80-200/4.5N AI (rectangular rear); 80-200/4 ais.

and the second will take place at the "battle of wide angle zooms"
28-45/4.5 AI; 25-50/4 AIS; 28-50/3.5 AIS.

Now, hard to wait 4-6 weeks until delivery from USA and Japan, respectively...

Nice! I miss my 80-200/4.5 with the square baffle. I truly loved that lens.

Does anyone know why there are these two versions of the non-automatic Nikon extension tubes? My Googling the matter yields nothing.

I noticed that in the earlier set, the A tube is very much like the K1, except that when mounting a lens, it does not rotate the lens 60 degrees, so it would be nice to use for close work with the 16mm f/3.5 fisheye - the built in lens shade would not vignette the corners like the K1. However, it does interfere with the electrical contacts on modern bodies.
Nikon claims the K2 is incompatible but doesn't say why, I've seen web sites that claim it interferes with the AI follower mechanism, but perhaps the earlier tubes are so ancient that they were not considered.
I'll probably go ahead and relieve the interference on the A tube with a grinder, the AI follower is in the clear.

Here's a website that shows both sets but not the differences:
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf2/macro/index1.htm

Kevin Are any of the caps swollen, that's a sure sign! I'd change them all out.

Yes, there are two different sets of rings. You want the PK series, not the K. The thinnest K will work on a few bodies, but I wouldn't trust any of the other ones.

None of the caps are swollen, but there are two that are starting to push up from the bottom (the ones pictured). The rest are surprisingly well off, considering their age. If I can find the caps locally, I will replace them. I am not at the stage where I want to start ordering these online.

Recent shot with the 75-150 E. Almost my bucket list shot (hummingbird in flight, where I don't have to crop a lot).

All I can say, Jose, is that you and Rafael are the masters of lens collecting. I may 39 but if you haven't already surpassed me in total number, the way you accumulate lenses really points to the scientist in you who wants to compare different lenses and different versions of the same lens... as you did earlier with your micro 55s. I really admire your commitment to these lenses and celebrate the fact you keep dropping lens porn and lens comparisons on the thread. I love them all. Knowing that you have to wait for delivery and that Brazil has an absurdly high import duty makes your commitment even more laudable. Well done my friend! Those are beauties...

So I was returning to my car after a lovely breakfast at the Good Earth, an incredible natural market with a great deli, I noticed a huge dog sitting in the back seat of a small car. I grabbed the camera which still has the 105 f/2.5 P AI attached and turned to take a photo. As I did the owner arrived. She was very pleasant and told me the dog's name is Lucy... I grabbed one shot and went on my way. They headed off to the dog park, together with the other two dogs in her car.

This one has grain added via the film choice I made while processing in Silver Efex Pro 2.

With apologies to Andy and anyone else using a laptop, here is a wide image showing the "pelaton" as it rode past me in San Geronimo Valley. I'd passed them when I drove over the pass at White Hill and expected they'd catch up to me when I'd stopped to take photos of some grasses near the road. That comes later...

West Marin is paradise both road cyclists and mountain bikers. This road takes them to the coast with numerous loops back to cities by the Bay.

What he said I have been falling further and further behind, I think I intended to catch the thread somewhere soon after the 4000+ page mark, but we are at 4025 now Have only been able to pop in and put in likes on whatever's on the last couple pages. Thanks everyone who commented on earlier pics. I intend to test the 18 3.5 AIS more this weekend, it spent a good deal of time on the FG with Tri-X the past couple weeks.

Curtis, love the grasses in B&W.

Reagan, really nice lighthouse!

Kevin, good luck for your Marantz-repair! Tried working on older radios in my youth and everything I did made the issues worse ;-)

Jose, congrats to your new old Zoom-Nikkor's. Hope the waiting-time won't be all too hard.

Andy, very nice beach-scenes!

Jay, very cool buffalo-showdown-montage!

Pathology Of A Lens In Trouble (or at least needs some TLC).

I noticed that one of my beloved 16/3.5 AI fisheyes was showing some weird halos around the sun on a clear blue sky.

I could see some issues near the rear element.

Today I took a real close look and I found something not only at the rear element, but the front element black surface has issues too (looks like dust).

See the following images.

I will send it off to Nikon El Segundo the end of this week for a thorough cleaning and inspection.

Problem Lens On The Right

  NIKON D800    0.0 mm f/0.0 lens    16mm    f/8.0    1/500s    100 ISO    0.0 EV

Good Lens Front

  NIKON D800    0.0 mm f/0.0 lens    16mm    f/11.0    1s    100 ISO    0.0 EV

Problem Lens Front - Note the dust behind the element on the baffle

Rear element of my good copy (ignore the general dust)

  NIKON D800    0.0 mm f/0.0 lens    16mm    f/11.0    1/2s    100 ISO    0.0 EV

Rear element of my problem lens - note the stuff around the edges as pointed out

  NIKON D800    0.0 mm f/0.0 lens    16mm    f/11.0    1/2s    100 ISO    0.0 EV

Thanks for the comments and likes, if I'm boring you let me know. Last of the beach shots I promise.

I'm calling this one "Tsunami". Do you think it is too dark ? would be better in B&W ?
