I only vaguely remember the whirlwind days of 2012 when we were adding 120 posts a day. That was pretty exciting but also exhausting. Trying to keep up with the photos and the conversation seemed impossible. Not surprising that we haven't maintained that breakneck pace, but almost 20,000 posts a year we added in the last year is not too shabby.

Hats off to everyone who contributes to this thread. Love of these lenses seems as enduring as love of taking photos of airplanes flying. It seems we're the only two threads with this kind of longevity. It takes passion for a subject to want to keep talking about it... and it takes finding cyber friends who share that passion for a conversation to keep going. Pretty sweet if you ask me...

Love the 180mm photos Leighton and Steve. I think I need to put that lens back in the camera bag and take it for a spin.

And Jay, as Leighton observes that shot with the 55 f/1.2 really pops with CD goodness. I thought only Zeiss lenses did that...

Classic shot Philippe. Every time I see one of your photos I long to be wandering around France with a camera in hand. Scenes of the sort you find are practically impossible in this corner of the world with its cookie cutter development. You can't tell one strip mall from another... it is rare to find something unique that has been built by man. That is probably why I find it so much easier to turn to the natural world. I'll have to rely on work from you and others living in the more exotic regions of the world.

Congrats everyone for their contributions to the finest thread at FM.

Here is another 180mm shot taken from my Balcony., The fireworks was around 3-4 miles away from home at Cranbury, NJ.

Quite interesting stats, thanks for doing this. Most of my nearly 9000 post are on this thread. Perhaps I have a problem.

Refresh my memory, was the really active time during Nikki's travels?

Thanks for the comments Phillipe ... and Tour de France is the only sport I actually watch on TV faithfully as it is a sport that I have engaged in ... I was a guest on one of the teams one year .... I must find those negs ... and yes shame about Cavendish ... but they are hard men ... not like footballers ... (I feel a fight coming on from some quarters )

Looks like I failed to change the non-CPU setting ... they were with the 180mm not the 50mm

and I did have Reagan in mind with some shots !!

Great stats Curtis

Andy kudos on the first shot, purple and blue with the 135. Very pleasant on the eyes. Nice work! For what it's worth in 1802 my Scot ancestry came from Dundee (It's a bit cloudy if they were west toward Perth) working there way to Manchester to sail here. Now eight generations later the pipes and drums still call at me.

Ram ... Brooklyn, I thought you are in NJ. Nice series

Avi nice water effects and exposure.

Raphael more than terrific. A really great series and proper tribute to the 4th of July and 80k posts. Of them all the Cathedral Zapopan has the most character. What amazes me is the spell checker caught the extra "P" I put in its name.

Leighton, the simple flowers on the table are about the best I've seen from all your great work!

Steve the long horns are cheering me up. Good job! Thanks for the like!

Jay what a great capture with the 55mm 1.2 of the cabin. I like the content the use of the lens and color!

Philippe the "Saints" shot is so very good ...

Ray cute puddle!

All right ... lets work to 90k . We've celebrated long enough over the greatest accumulation of MF work and knowledge to be found ANYWHERE!

I'm introducing a new lens to the forum and really don't expect the bit of lens porn to be widely accepted. However it's about the cleanest lens all y'all will ever see! I made sure of that! Introducing the 35mm 2.5 MF lens.

Two years ago a friend of the family passed and I got an email from his wife asking me if I would like his "very old" camera gear. Well I got it last week, felt humbled at the generous offer and can only imagine the fun he had with it. Now, relegated to non use by the "go pro" crowd, the Nikonos cameras, once masters of the sea as the Queen Mary and QE2 were an important part of history. Had they not been there Cousteau would have been a print author without the tempting photos of the seas he dove in. So here you go!

Correct me if I'm wrong Leighton but wasn't it YOU WHO CREATED AND SHEPHERDED THE NIKKI BLOG?

If YOU don't know the dates, no one does...

May 2012 to May 2013, so yes, our busy days coincided with the Great Lens Adventure... I checked the blog to be certain of the dates... But I have an excuse for my poor memory... I'm OLD...

So I'm trying an experiment. Picasa seems to have trouble with bright red even when I've reduced exposure in Lightroom. Three photos I uploaded yesterday simply don't work, so I tried uploading them to my long ago abandoned Flickr account to see whether Yahoo can do a better job. So I'll try to post the Flickr image and then post the Picasa image.

135.2.8.QC.MorningLightRoseClose by CGrindahl, on Flickr

Finally got there after a few attempts... Picasa obviously couldn't handle the reds. I don't know whether I'll switch all my photo hosting since Picasa works so well at keeping folders updated, but I may need to use Flickr when the image is bright and loaded with red...

Absolutely! Nikonos is still among the finest build quality. I even have a flash ... so when I get back diving they'll be put to the test!

Curtis, on my calibrated screen, the flickr image looks a lot more appealing. The Picasa image looks blown out. I would make the switch to flickr and join the rest of us on there. We make comments to one anothers work sometimes that we don't do here on the thread. Mainly because other cameras and lenses are used.

Scott, nice set with the 85/1.8HC and converter. The bokeh-shot looks really, really great. Very nice framing on the small jetty.

Ken, if I ever manage to set up a real proper wet darkroom (looks like this could finally happen next year) I will invest in the Nikonos. I've seen fantastic images taken with this classical camera. Your splash-images are fun to look at.
