Today I wanted to use the 5.8cm for buildings, it has done very well for me creating interesting images of cars and steam tractors, now it was time for street photography of buildings, not people.

Went late in the day, the sun was low but bright, the sky clear and the shadows dark, not good for an old lens.

Went to downtown Vista, Vista Village is a piece of old California, back when in California few were rich and no one was poor, a simple California Cottage in a small town was a good life indeed. Vista lays claim to the best weather in the continental US.

This is the Hair Salon, Law Office and Skin Care location, at 1.4

Lovely photos everyone and thanks for the suggestion to still consider the 200 even with a 180.
Unfortunately I can get only one: 200 or 300. And my longest lens is the 70-200. So very unsure. Also, in all honestly I am worried about handling huge lenses without vr ... Especially at 300. But the 300 comes cheaper than the 200, albeit the 300/4.5 could be enough. Difficult choices.

Ryan - I would never sell the sigma 35. Ever. But that is because I do not care of its weight much.p when compared to other lenses I have or plan to have. And the sigma is simply stunning. I have been taking pants of monoliths with it last week and even at wide aperture I can see the fine texture of the rocks and great highlight renderition.

John, I had lots of fun doing some mountain watching myself, but from ~19,000 ft. I flew from Vancouver to Portland and back again, the first flight heading South I had a view out the west facing windows of the coast and the Pacific ocean, and on the flight back North I had a view to the East with all of the Cascades in glorious view. A Dash-8 (or smaller...) may be the best way to fly that route because the prop plane stays much lower than a jet would.

Two more from that same trip back to North America with the 28mm f/2.8 AI-s. One at f/11 on highway I-5 heading North towards Portland from Eugene, Oregon, and the second of my wife outside of my parents' house in Newfoundland, at f/2.8. I'm a fan of the backgrounds the f/2.8 can produce, and this picture shows why I kept it instead of the 28mm f/2 AI-s that I also tested for a few days.

Great work everyone! At the risk of overdoing "Detroit".... here's one last image taken with the 16mm f3.5. The reflection of the red lights emanating from the Renaissance Center caught my eye and this fine old MF lens captured the moment.

Looking forward to what today brings on this special thread...

Cheers and good light,
David

I can 't see them here either. The links to the images actually seem to trigger some process on the hosting site, rather than directly access the image, which is probably why they fail here. If I paste the http-s26.postimg.org/d62camdev/4_SC6130_resize4.jpg URL into a new browser window I can see the image, but the URL immediately changes to http-postimg.org/image/km1lwf145/full/ which indicates the site doesn't allow direct linking or something else is going on. The image on the page that loads is the JPG that doesn't work on its own. So clearly an issue with that hosting site.

when the page loads the hosting site offers other modes to link to the image, but none work here. I tried them all

Just received a 200/4QC ... it feels rather weird. Long and thin. But the first impression is positive. Seems a rather good lens I got with very clean optics and decent cosmetics. I will need to find a way to clean the focus metal barrel ... so suggestions are welcome. My usual baby wipes do not work here as the focus barrel is not smooth.

And, thanks to you guys, I am in full MF-NAS .... I am about to close a good deal for a mint AIS 300/2.8 last generation!! I will only miss now a bag i can use to carry the lens and the camera in and a lens strap. I am not sure it will fit in my kata200. This lens comes with a front leather pouch ... and I guess a hard cap does not exists for this monster!

Philippe, I am glad you took the carbon fiber water bottle holder off the bike. It would have ruined that terrific shot had you not.

Ryan I am amused and confounded by the luggage people in line for what looks like an eatery. Interesting street scenes make my day. Also resign yourself to the fact that one day you will own and love either the 50 or 55mm 1.2, don't put off the inevitable.

Lester very intense shot. Glad to see you back!

Wow Scott the tractors are gems. I like them all and it looked like a fun day for you too!

Raphael got to loves the Jewelry Loan truck ... free advertisement in an area that probably does not allow signs. The police car in the bokeh makes the shot as far as I'm concerned.

Joseph very nice work with you 28mm and the Df. Good rendering of colors. I llke the sensor and the viewfinder is better than I thought possible without a split prism.

Peter thanks for the #4 Vette shot ... that's my car!

Paul the fishmonger's expression = priceless. Glad you caught it and posted it. The scrolled to the woman and her shadow ... don't know which I like best

Andy thanks for sharing the Liverpool trip. Good angle and perspective on the dino!

Curtis ... despite the sage advice to Ryan there are "desert island" lenses none of which are a 1.8-50mm or 2.8-55mm. NMFAS is a disease that goes well beyond those going to the island or those not considered "holy grail" items. My advice is always by the best the pick up the $50 lenses when you find them. The only reason to sell a desert island lense is to pocket the $$$ after you purchased a BETTER one.

Ronny the small boat and you seemed to be running ahead of a squall line. Nice shot in every aspect.

Raphael love the presentation of the 50's buildings and designs. Interesting towns are a part of America that we saw on road trips that often became the highlight of a trip.

PhillipJ very nice.

Sar your images are not loading but a trip to the links that do is well worth it, nice work.

David couldn't see Sar's images either. I enjoyed the nice sunlight and reflection of the last Detroit skyline.

Some comment ... In praise of FAST lenses shot at F8.

Francesco,
I've posted several times about using a product sold here called "Hoppe's No.9," a gun cleaning solvent. It is safe for fine rifle finishes as well as scopes and glass should there be inadvertent contact. Similar products are available world-wide but DO NOT USE military issue solvents that not be as friendly.

As to the hood, there is an old timer here that shoots a rubber hood on his 300mm 2.8Af-S. I admired it and found out it was a black rubber plumbing connector that was available from a home improvement store. It had the same dimensions and better protection than the $300 CF carbon fiber hood that came with the lens and cost $6 US.
