Well... Curtis shared images often enough with the 135mm f2.8 Q.C. that he talked me in to buying one.

I couldn't resist this lens (like new) and for under 100 bucks. Now I'll either modify it myself or send it off to have it done.

Excellent buy Leighton, I was very tempted to buy that lens too, price was low and conditions super, but the needed conversion and the lack of its Ai kit ring have kept me from clicking.
I'm already regretful

Good evening all! I finally had my 16mm f3.5 fisheye lens ai'd by John White yesterday, and had a brief session with it this evening before the sky opened. After seeing the fine work with this lens posted by John, Peter and Jay, I'm a little intimidated posting my first shots with it. It's not an easy lens to use! Here's a three shot panorama of the Ambassador Bridge between the USA and Canada, followed by a single capture. Distortion doesn't seem too bad to me and the lens seems to be fairly sharp across the frame. I'll post a

The first one is very nice, but I love the light behind the ship. How fast was the turn-around with John White?

And Francesco made the move as well. Well done guys!

I'll say again, this is one of those Nikkors that is an incredible value for the money. I keep trying the pre-AI lenses with their earlier optical designs and over and over again have been blown away by performance. That is surely the case with the 135 f/2.8 Q.C. The earlier lens, the Q doesn't have the added

It was only after seeing all the great images you've posted with yours AND the bokeh test you did with the other 135's that convinced me. After seeing how well the Q.C. held up to the f2...well that was the straw that broke the camel's back. The only other thing was holding out for the Q.C. instead of the Q and also finding one in such good condition. I'll probably end up doing the conversion myself. Didn't Jose document that procedure?

Samy - Great capture. When you get the chance to catch up with the thread, you'll see that we're posting images of us in our twenties, your turn buddy!

Andy - Nice set with the clock, but MAN is that thing creepy.

Roberto - Thanks. That seller has another one in the same condition. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-Nikkor-135mm-2-8-Q-C-Non-Ai-Manual-Focus-Lens-w-Caps-/251603147153?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item3a94b75991

Nice first image! My 16/3.5's are a tie for my sharpest lens on my D800. So sharp in fact that I must use live view (or my pre-determined infinity stop) to get it tack sharp.

Beware that every copy that I've seen has the infinity focus far off from that marked on the focus ring. On both my copies true infinity is about half-way between the 5 and 2 meter mark. Most times I just put the focus point half way between 5 and 2 meters and set it to f/8 and all is good.

Thanks for looking John! Funny you should mention about the location of infinity focus on the lens.... I thought initially that my lens was defective, but after taking a few images with live view, I was happy with the results, so really didn't care! I've already taken note of the location of infinity on the lens barrel.... I'm looking forward to mounting the lens on my D700 when I return to Oz at the end of the month. I'm still considering purchasing a Df while I'm here in Canada, in order to use it in Hong Kong and Macau, where I'll be spending a week.

Cheers for now,
David

Hi Leighton, thanks for the comment! I am fortunate that Ann Arbor, Michigan is only a forty five minute drive from my place in Windsor, Ontario.... so I drove the lens over to John's house to meet him personally. I dropped the lens off about 10:30 in the morning and he had it modified by noon. Very clean job, and as he was only modifying it for a D700 and D7100 (not D90 etc...) he only charged me $20. I'm sure I'll enjoy the lens, even though it won't see as much use as your namesake! Here are two more with the fisheye.... and a final image with the 50-135 ais (but I forgot to change the non-cpu data table).

Cheers and good light,
David

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. After studying some sites about AI'ing a lens, I think I'm going to do it myself. Who knows, this may lead to a whole new line of lenses to purchase.

This thread moves too fast, I quickly looked at all, posts and it is difficult to give any comment. Too many photos and for sure some really impressive use of the 16mm!
After a long drive, I am now with my family in Brittany. In a small village called Le Conquet. It is a wonderful place and I hope to be blessed to have the same light as last night, wonderful for photography. But last night I was just too tired.
Even my youngest son was impressed ... The first thing he did when we woke up was to look outside and he stayed like this for a long time. The following shows exactly this as well as what he was looking at. Photos made with the nikkor H85 with the second having a bit of a tilt-shift effect added.

Leighton, the other lens looks like a Q not a QC
The serial # and the Q by itself on the front of the lens tells me so
I think his description is wrong
double check it for me

One more feeding scene at the lagoon behind the deck of the rental at Kiawah island. This was about 160-200 feet away based upon the scale of the 500 F4 P focus ring. Images are cropped significantly more than the alligator feeding scene.

Assignment from Prof. Jose's course: green heron fishing sequence (still learning from his posts )

GreenHeronFishing1 by maryland_photos, on Flickr

GreenHeronFishing2 by maryland_photos, on Flickr

GreenHeronFishing3 by maryland_photos, on Flickr

The three images were taken in a burst with the camera in the CH mode, and shutter speed 1/4000th second. So the green heron shoots out into the water and grabs for prey in a fraction of a second, whatever the D800 can muster in terms of time between shutter releases in its CH mode

Francesco - I really like the effect that you achieved with the shift. Hope you get your light.

Reagan - You're right, I didn't look close enough, thanks for catching that.

Samy - Another good capture. Now, let's dig into those archives of yours and find a pic.
