These were taken two days before I met Dean
Like a practice run you might say
I was intimidated! I hadn't shot streets in ages
I must have walked past her 6 times... or more
She woke up a couple of times just as I approached
Had my wife buy bananas at the next stall (amazingly sweet, had a distinct 'fuzzy' mouth feel)

D700 + 28 2.8 AIS
Sometimes I feel like I'm cheating with Auto ISO

Love it Chin. Have you tried converting your street shots to B&W?

With Ram's acquisition of the 105 f1.8 (congrats BTW Ram) and Curtis' beaming report on it, a question comes to mind.

For those you have used both, which do you prefer, the 85mm f1.4 or the 105 f1.8? There's not a lot of difference in FL, so consider the IQ when deciding.

Funny thing is I use the 105 considerably more than the 85 but that has everything to do with focal length, not lens performance. IQ is amazing with the 85 f/1.4. It will be in my camera bag when I attend my friend's book launch. But I won't be shooting wide open with either lens. I will shoot wide open with the 135 f/2 but I'll be at some distance and the focal plane will be wide enough for that to work well.

The 85 f/1.4 AI-s is really a magic lens. Color, contrast, sharpness, sumptuous bokeh... it has it all. Since we always like seeing lovely women, here's a shot I took last Thanksgiving with this lens at f/2. I was across the room so this is cropped...

The 105 f/1.8 AI-s is a great performer as well. Here's another shot reprised, this at f/2.8.

Of course, we have a few options at this focal length and the f/2.5 lenses are hardly chopped liver. I love using them as well, but the heft of the f/1.8 feels good on the camera. And this is what happens when you shoot with it wide open... Clearly, the f/2.5 lenses can't do that...

Yes actually. I've a few but trying to segregate the colours from the whites.

It also suggests James, that when the weather is bad and one doesn't own a studio, creating spreadsheets is one way to stay close to our lenses. I created one too this past winter in part to have an accurate record of what each lens cost so I could include that information when asked. Of course, we all know I own too many lenses... The real problem is that I seem incapable of letting them go... I'm not the only person, however, who has multiple copies of favorite lenses. That seems to be part of this particular syndrome... but I'm not complaining and certainly am not looking for a 12 Step program...

Curtis...a studio is wherever you are. Confession time...I too have a spread sheet of all the stuff I have accumulated. Mainly it is because my memory always remembers things better than the reality. What I paid always lowers, and what I sold it for rounds up...why is that?

I just checked it - I thought I sold more than I purchased since September, but no! Rats!

We got the news this morning that one of my father-in-law's favorite dogs passed away yesterday after a somewhat short battle with cancer.
Over the years I've tried to capture some good images of his dogs just for such occasions and this inevitable occasion has indeed arrived.

One of photography's functions is to sufficiently record the present so in the future it can be better remembered as the past.

Here's a few images of the aptly-named Oreo with various MF Nikkors and Nikon DSRLs.

The 50/1.2 and 55/1.2 are fun lenses to have for sure. Looking forward to some f/1.2 images!

Beautiful images of Oreo, John. Always hate when one of my pets die, but glad you were able to capture the dog's personality through your shots, too.

Hello. I have been following this thread for a little while and finally took the time to join in. I really enjoy the posts and the community of the forum. I have updated my profile to give a little background and to post my MF lens collection. I am glad I held on to a few of my lenses from my film days and I have also added a few since my Nikon Df purchase last winter. Since I do not have enough posts yet to be able to upload images directly, I am hoping my links to Flickr work here.

These are a few from a short hike on the Shallow Ford trail (part of the Haw River Trails in central North Carolina) from the other week. I like going out with only one lens a lot of the time and all of these were with the Nikon Df and the 20mm f3.5 AI-s.

Thanks,

George
