Good work John! It was sharper than I expected - skin pores and eye lashes.....

Starting bid was $99.00! I wonder where it will go!

Sadly it's "reserve not met", so there won't be any "steals" with this auction. A premium will have to be bid for this lens to get shipped.

I used my new 135 2.0 ais on the D3 over the weekend, instead of the D800, beause I did not want to work too hard at focusing.

As long as the conversation is about its performance, this shot is at 2.0 on the D800. See the crops.

You must nail the focus and correct axial and lateral aberration (easy), and you get this sharp and contrasty at 2.0. Also choose where you want the peak focus plane to be. There is some curvature of field to the lens, closer to the edges.

This lens at 2.0 is as good as the 50s at 2.0 and almost three times as long. Better than my 180mm ai at 2.8.

Peter, sorry, I've tried a lighter version of the blossom with a less "screaming" bokeh, but don't like it myself. Maybe I'll try to capture the same blossoms tomorrow with a short tele-lens. Thanks for sharing your opinion, highly valued by me.

Georg - I reread my comment which was harsh and probably better left unsaid. However the pic was so different from your normal finesse that it really made an impact.

Cheers

All the discussion on various lens attributes on this thread by the people who regularly use them, HAS to make this the most valuable resource of Nikon MF lenses anywhere.

Keep it up guys!

So I have decided that I will sell the 105/2.5 Ai. Not because it isn't good (it really is great!) but because I feel that the 85/2 does everything the 105 does in a smaller package. It will go on eBay UK tonight.

My (not so desert) island kit for the 3 months I will be spending in Madeira Island (click here if you don't know where it is located):

D610
Nikkor 24/2.8 Ai
Nikkor 85/2 Ai
PN-11
Nikkor 300/4 AF-S + TC-17EII
and hopefully some smaller extension tubes like the PK-11, 12 and 13.

Another one shot with the 85/2 Ai wide open.

Jeff Your Broken Hill shot looks like it was taken in the desert! It would be nice to see it larger.

Ronny I like the 3 zones of background colors with the contrasting color.

I went back to the nursery and found out that the bluish metallic plant I posted earlier is a red cabbage.

I found a couple of lenses yesterday, one was a 135mm f/3.5 Q that seems quite nice,
and an incorrectly AI'd 43-86mm f/3.5. I modified them and really like the 135mm but the 43-86 is in it's own class, I've never seen anything quite so bad!

SOOC D800 Both 43 and 86 shot at f/3.5, only slightly better stopped down.
A Holga Zoom!

I'm all set for Halloween!

Thank you for the likes and comments. Those that have posted regarding the 135mm, a new focal length to me have made life interesting. The QC is very sharp, with good color and contrast. It's focus throw is good and easy.

A couple of shots. The wheels are heavily cropped.

Bad news: Bummer Larry & Kevin, on having serious health issues. Definitely take care and keep us updated as you can.

Good news: I may have possibly just pulled off a B in Microbiology, which means I won't be on the wait list very long, one to two semesters, rather than two to three years. Then it's another five semesters to finish and get my associates.

Ken, that often happens when you start using a new FL. It happened to me with the 35mm. I'm sorry, but which 135 did you acquire?

Lestor, my vote goes with the B&W.

Thanks Leighton, and . I suspect that's a major fib right there... it has definitely been a struggle for me so far. Summer schedule this year is a bit lighter, so we'll see how it goes. Fall is even more of a lighter schedule, as there is one class, Pharmacology, that is the most difficult of the non nursing classes to pass, so it'll be that class, plus maybe a few PE classes where I won't have to think, just do . Getting in another computer certification class over the summer as well, as a backup plan.

Leighton, I bought the 135mm QC, pristine shape and converted by John White. I had a Nikkormat and then an F2 which never saw much use with the 135 I owned then. I grew a dislike for the FL. Oddly, I owned a 43-86 that was a good one and used the long end for portraits as it was a bit soft and bokeh was terrific.

This QC is a surprise! For me to think it can replace the 105 and the 180ED that are my travel mainstays is a bit of a shock. We are lucky to have real time info from current users of this gear that makes NMFAS less daring when it comes to venturing off in new areas.

Also FWIW my friend pulled out of the Lakeland Farmers Market as the fees were too high and the "craftsmen" and "souvenir" sellers are taking over!!
