Here it's late afternoon, and this old man is getting weary. I've been removing Ivy from the riverwall
at the edge of my yard. Mrs Mullan and I are going to replace the Ivy with morning glories, my choice, and we want a few climbing roses, her choice.

It's break time, so a drink of ice tea and the D200 come into play!

You're speaking to me, right Ed?

Love this shot and admire your capacity for such work. As I recall, you're no spring chicken yourself. Of course, getting a bit of physical exercise, even in the form of work like this, is a good thing. The old adage is "use it or lose it..."

Nice that you and your wife can find agreement on such things as morning glories and climbing roses. They should be beautiful. I'll let you get back to work...

Hello again everyone! I have been away for some days but now that I am all settled in in Madeira Island, here comes the first photos. Nothing extraordinary yet. Have not gone far from the house yet, but with the ocean just in front, I do not really feel the need just yet.

More on my Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nampramos/

Shot with the Nikkor 85/1.4 AIS

View from the house I am staying at:

The next village to the one I am staying at. Before building the current tunnel, it would take about 30 minutes to drive there, instead of the 2 minutes it now takes to drive across the tunnel.

Not that usual to have waves at this small pier, even during the winter, but due to the direction of the swell it happened.

I will try to share as much as possible with you guys and if anyone wants to come for a visit, just drop me a message.

Using the tablet is a bad thing for comment but the like button for appreciation of the recent fine shots and comments.

I get to leave her Saturday. four full weeks after the fall. The rehab is hard and promising for the remaining months of healing. Took a small fall today. Ouch!

Here are a few shots from the room and the grounds. Still with the 55mm 1.2 105mm 2.5 and the 28mm 2.8.

You probably got your hand slapped for the AF picture, not the topic of conversation. Thanks for the input, take your blows and roll with them.

Or better yet, take a walk on the wild side. Buy one of these:

How many eyes are you willing to part with Curtis?

As a matter of fact I just bough a 'new' 5.8cm in great cosmetic shape but with element separation. These can be glued back together, or I will Frankenstein the elements and barrels to make a best 5.8cm. Cut the Extra aperture ring into AI shape. I was also after the shade, this version is rare.

There are two 5.8cm I own with mint glass and excellent cosmetics, one has a weak diaphragm. The new lens will improve the two working ones, and leave spare parts.

This is the new purchase:

It will join the two in this photo.

When I complete this project the lens will look like this:

You are the man Rafael. I always love your lens porn. These are all beautiful. I think you need a Df so you don't have to cut aperture rings. That definitely is in the back of my mind though I keep telling myself I already have too many lenses. Forty is enough... this is absurd...

And no, I'm keeping both my eyes.

We are blessed to have so many fine photographers using these old lenses who can so easily demonstrate their capability. Thanks for the demonstration Rafael. I love this set of images... That Df is calling again...

So I am shopping for something in the 35mm range and 20~24mm range. What do you all suggest? I am on a very tight budget, so cheap speaks. Really looking for nice and crisp images, will mostly be shooting at f/2.8~5.6.

What say you all? (remember I am on Dx)

The 24 f/2.8 in its various iterations is an excellent lens that Ray Steele used to great advantage when he was shooting with a D7000. It gets you to 36mm focal length. A pristine copy of the pre-AI N.C. I found with the conversion ring attached was just over a hundred dollars. I paid $190 for an AI-s version with lens hood in pristine condition on craigslist. Honestly, it is great value for money.

At 35 I've owned two f/2 lenses in addition to the high price spread, the f/1.4. I was happy with the AI-s version but sold it to Alan on this thread after buying the faster lens. More recently, as I began my pre-AI adventure, I picked up an O lens that perform quite well. I picked that lens up for $112 on E-Bay.

You know that a number of folks are using the 20 f/3.5 with great success. This would be the least expensive option if you decided to go wider. The U.D. is a lovely lens but likely will cost a bit more than later versions. It is also bigger.

Happy shopping Kevin.

Thats so true Curtis. The 24mm 2.8 was my favorite wide on the D7000. I sold the lens to the fellow who bought my D7000 but have since pulled a Reagan and I bought another copy. It is wonderful on FX as well. I have seen them go for very reasonable prices recently on E-bay. Over all the prices of the Nikkors is down slightly. It might just be the right time to pick up the AIS for around $120- $170. Good luck Kevin.
