Rafael, I do wish you and the family stay safe. 4 miles is not a lot of distance between you and a fire of that size.

I'm way behind on the thread.
Raphael Stay safe, what photos!

Nocal has been unusually warm and relentlessly clear.

Love it Jay, the slope upwards
What's that at the top - a lookout tower of sorts?

I'm extra aware of my surroundings when traveling ... kinda extended my spidey sense radius by a good few yards
Which also means I make notes and 'snapshots' in my mind of landmarks, steps, turns, so I can orientate myself if need be (walk confidently, no whipping out of phones or maps in the street unless seated in a cafe, etc)
This was my mental landmark; nondescript stall selling roast meats tucked away by the corner, with small park barely 500sqft bordering its front
Used this for 3 days, coming back here to recenter if I need to ... until the day Dean told me the park is where all the druggies, junkies and streetwalkers hang out
Great

Chin You must be using magic light bulbs, beautiful shrink wrap shot!

The tower is a converted water tower of a type that are common here, enclosing the once open timber frame makes for some wonderful living space and some fine views.

Here's another tower that has been converted.

Raphael, I had heard about the fire, but wow...your images make it look pretty bad. With California in the worst drought on record, this is a scary time for everyone here. Stay safe!

Looks nice Nuno, but it looks like you will have fun with those coloured highlight edges. Did you try correcting them?

Just a reminder to those folks who are dropping photos taken with extension tubes that another place to showcase that work is another thread I started some time ago in the Macro World forum. It is called Shooting with Tubes and has proved to be a great place for folks on this thread as well as folks shooting with other systems to share close work. In many ways it is a natural extension of what we do here, in large measure because Nikon was so invested in offering gear needed to do close work. All the MF micro lenses Nikon manufactured require extension tubes to reach 1:1 magnification. Of course, much of the pleasure I've found in this work has come from the fact tubes can be mounted on ANY lens and take you closer to the subject. If you haven't already checked out that thread I'd encourage you to do so. And if you've been playing with tubes drop some photos on that slow moving thread. Yes, it is the longest thread on the forum and the moderator chose to pin it to the top of the forum, but it can use a little support and this is the crowd capable of providing it. Pull out those Nikon and Vivitar tubes and get cracking...

Jay, great seeing some photos from Mendocino. I'd encourage you to do a bit of street photography that shows off this charming community. The 24 PC-E would be a great lens for that kind of work. It would also be fun to take to the beach. The northern California coast has not been well represented on this thread. And if you head inland to check out the Avenue of Giants... redwood trees along Highway 101, that would be delightful as well. You have an abundance of riches around you. Have fun.

I have a remote cable shutter release on the way. Going to see how things do using a tripod for a bit. I have 3, so I might as well right? I just figured out that one of my tripods I can hang the camera under the tripod, so I can get down low to the ground.

I have been modifying how I do my photography to attempt to deal with the weight issue. When I go out, I usually have two or less lenses with me in a small shoulder bag. My tripod has a bag with a shoulder strap as well. I have found if I cross them (like two bandoliers across my chest) I can distribute the weight on my back better and even though there is more weight, I am not pulling on one side or the other.

Tomorrow I get to do some post work on my recent outing. I hope to post as well. I don't like having to slow down as much as I have to right now, but that's the breaks. I have postponed selling for now in the hopes of making my kit work. What I wish I had in my kit was a good rectilinear wide angle. I have a 10.5mm AF fisheye, but I don't care for fisheyes or correcting them.

Just got back home and I think I have some cool photos. Will try to share some tomorrow.

Good night!
