Just every now and then we get a train photo.

So I thought why not !!

As Paris has a railway station or two .... then there might be some trains .....

And as I travelled there by rail ... it seemed only natural to take some pix ....

Using the Leighton lens (50-135)

You see how this logic thing works ....

Shame it doesn't work for me .... so my good lady tells me !!!

You might find yourself on the Metro ....

All sorts of people use it ....

And you may find some interesting images to snap ... again the 50-135mm

When on my honeymoon, my wife and I rode on the bullett train. Amazingly smooth ride considering how fast we were going. I want to say we hovered around 320km/hr. What always startled me was passing another train going just as fast in the opposite direction.

Joe, after you use this lens and any others you may buy, you'll understand why you bought it and won't question your judgement any more. Very nice opening image BTW.

It's that time of the year, time to work the ground and get ready for planting. We will be planting over 700 broccoli and cabbage plants in it today. Shot with the least used lens in my kit, the 24/2.8.

Lovely portrait Steve. But on my computer it's a tad over-saturated.

Jose - great photo of the White-eared Puffbird. It looks amazingly like a bird I saw in Australia called the "Laughing Kookaburra". Do they have similiar calls?

Thaks everyone for the kind comments.

Curtis & Ronny, very nice flowers, as usual;

Nice to see Rinie coming back;

Mihai, beautifully captured girl;

JD fantastic mockinbird (?);

Georg, loved the "bird" with the 85/1.8 H;

Jay, superb herons with the "crazy hairs"

Leighton, loved your last B&W "artsy" capture with the 50-135;

Steve, thanks for the comparison of the 180 vs 200/2.

Georg, Loved the plant closing series. I'm finding these "end of an era" stories are becoming more frequent, and very poignant.

georgms wrote:
Some more MF-shots from yesterday. Closeout at a plant with a long history. Sad story - they used to make really large diesel-engines here, up to over 35.000 HP (for ships, without gearbox - all those horses were directly delivered to a large fixed prop).
Now all tools and machines are for sale, from a screwdrivers (sold in lots) to mammoth machines.

This friendly worker started in 1966 his in-plant-training here and is one of the last workers right now, cleaning up the plant, helping equipment-buyers to dismount the machines. He is 62 now and never worked elsewhere:

Joe, congrats to your new old 105/1.8 Ais and the fine portrait. Love the atmospheric look of this beautiful shot. The 105/1.8 is a gem, a pleasure to shoot with.

Scott, wow, your landscape is really dramatic. The bright colors above the white and bright grey-tones are amazing. Your final "End of winter"-shot for this year?

Ken, I like the no-parking-signs. A nice detail, love the contrast between worn signs and fresh flower-colors.

Curtis, nice set of 105's! The 105/1.8 is my go-to-105, except I really wanna go light (in this case the 100/2.8 Series-E might works as substitute for the "real" Nikkor's) or when I wanna use filters (more 52mm than 62mm-filters in my bag).

Rafael, as usual beautiful gear-images. Drooool.

Americo, one of the first lessons I've learned as a newcomer to this wonderful thread is that pictured bottles should be full ;-) http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/929565/1362#10744428
Nice bokeh-shots with the 85/1.4!

Steve, love the portrait of the lady, but agree with Leighton: saturation is a bit high.

Leighton, nice point of view and really "rural" colors on your tractor-shot.

Thanks for the comments on the closed-plant-set!

James, the "era ends only locally" - the machines and tools were used to make fine equipment, just no longer here (can't blame the international buyers). Physical work will be done elsewhere. I just hope that some of the "real workers" here will continue to produce real goods I can see and touch.
