Scott, I like the muted tones and your framing of the old silo a lot. One thing that look's a bit strange to my eyes is the almost too perfect straightened silo. For free-standing tall subjects like a church or a crane I back up the correction a bit to make it look more natural. For subjects in a row (with lots of reference points/lines - like a street-scene) a perfect correction looks best in most cases in my opinion. No offense meant, as usual.

Georg, thank you for the input. Never hesitate to comment. It is this kind of feedback that helps me improve. Believe me I can use the help.

David, nice airy shots - are those done at or near sunset? The light is so warm and soft…

Hi George, you've nailed it.... most of my photos are taken during the golden hour before and during sunset.... I think I've got the flickr embedding thing nailed...

I'm loving this 28mm ais..

Cheers and good light,
David

I really like this one Chin.... however, it gives me an ominous feeling, hoping the little guy doesn't run out on to the road to get the ball!!

Cheers and good light,

Thanks all for the likes and comments on the lichen.

Ray, loved the bokeh explorations with your new 135/2; please keep them coming;

Georg, phenomenal bokeh and composition work!

Andy, awesome extreme macros with the 28/2.8 reversed;

Scott, great compostion with the sun hidden behind the silo!

Steve, loved the BBC pano.

Gregg, I agreed with Reagan, just perfect cat portrait;

David, great landscape with the 28/2.8 ais.

One more close up, this time a "real life" test of the venerable 50-135mm + 2 close up lenses:

Praying Mantis eating ant belly by labecoaves, on Flickr

Praying mantis finishing the remaining belly of an ant. In fact if you see the larger image it is possible to note the sucking of liquid matter from the belly!
D600 + Nikkor 50-135mm f/3.5 ais @ 135mm + 6T+ 5T close up lenses (=4.4 diopters) + tripod + Nissin macroflash, focus at MFD. ISO 400, f/22 at 1/60s. ~15% cropped. ~0.77x magnification according to the "close up lens calculator" here:

What do you do when you are in a photo phunk? I have not been inspired to shoot at all this week. Last week I shot because I was asked to. What do you all do to get motivated?

Thanks for the likes/comments guys. The eggs are apparently from bugs of the order Hemiptera (True bugs, aphids, hoppers etc.).

As I may have mentioned, we are re-planting our garden with native plants and placing particular emphasis on plants that birds and butterflies use as food plants. We have had a couple of female Cairns Birdwing Butterflies in the garden recently for the first time which is pretty cool.

They have a wingspan of up to 18cm ! They are particular to lay eggs and feed on a type of vine so we have some of those.

Here is the caterpillar - they are up to 10cm and fat (up to 1 inch diameter) !!! They have "horns" that they inflate out of a slot in the front of their head when threatened. They are seen here half inflated.

I look at some of my old shots that I think are good - that can get me excited and motivated.
Sometimes I have to re-remember why I like photography.

Nothing. I wait for it to pass. Which these days is made easy when the girlfriend went out and brought back some outstanding photos. That gets me motivated if I experience something like a lack of motivation.

Oftentimes the light just catches me and I just grab one of two camera bags and go out.

And some tuby goodness

Now I need to get out during the weekend and see what I can do with the 55mm f1,2 S.C and the PK-11 or PK-12

I amde some example photos.

Here is one without tubes using the 55mm f1,2 S.C
All were made wide open

With the PK-11, again wide open

With PK-12, wide open

With PK-13, wide open

With PN-11, wide open

Thank goodness for the "like" button!

Gregg - congrats on the 55 macro. Where did you find a BNIB one? They are very sharp at distance too.

Jose - Great shot! And with the mighty 50-135!

Ram - Wonderful idea and well executed!

Andy - Love the processing on these. Which lens did you use?

Two reasons for taking this shot ....

First and obviously most important .....

Taken on 55mm f1.2 @full aperture ISO200

Second .... cos I like the blue .... trivial ... but it works for me !!!

By the way .... don't let you're female partners know about this shop ... they spend spend spend in there

It seems to be the latest must have item ... a Cath Kidston bag .... go figure !!

Steve

Ram, wow, what a great idea! And the pictorial result is great as well.

David, your last image is the most appealing so far to my eyes for it's great framing.

Jose, the Mantis-portrait is another proof of your skills and quite a testimony for the quality of the "budget-line" zoom.

Andy, great macros from the Caterpillar! My fav is #6748 for it's super soft light.

Buddy, nice examples with the "tubed" 55/1.2! And the subject is a joy to look at too ;-)

Steve, wow, the bag-store looks just like a very expensive candy-store in terms of colours ;-) Nice shot!
