Now as I think about this even more: the 105/2.5, 135/2.8 or the 180/2.8 with an extension tube sounds like a great inexpensive possibility

The big looming question for me is, ....Can I get 1:1 with a telephoto MF lens and an extension tube?

You can, with enough tubes.

Thank you!

Yes! I have already realized!

My eyes are already set on a 105/2.5 Ai which I will probably purchase this weekend.

I think my wallet will loose some weight over the next couple of months...

Every time I come to this thread there's a new participant. This certainly has become one of the most vibrant places to gather on the internets!! Welcome new folks to the most friendly corner of cyberspace and I will try to later today go through as many pages as possible and learn new names and see what all the regulars have been up to.

Here's a recent pic with the 5cm 1.4 SC on the S2 rangefinder, using Kodak UltraMax 400 film. There was a whole roll a couple weeks ago taken with the 10.5cm 2.5 PC that I flubbed. Don't ask, but I have learned my lesson on how and when to rewind

Not in Egypt, but at a suburban shopping mall in Maryland.

And this set taken at the Govan Presbyterian church with a much later version of Nikon's normal but still manual lens, the 50 1.2 AIS. The church is in far northern Baltimore; Govan being the name of the community with the name originating from Glasgow, Scotland, where a congregation dating to AD 575 still bears the same name.

More copious use of the Like button! I'd have to be glued to the computer all night to keep up with the conversation.

Thanks for the comments on my gymnast. Lots more where that came from, and about 5 times that many misses.

Loving the double exposures. My F90x would do that with film sometimes, and it once gave me a great blast from the past. See the AF thread here: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1218828/80#12272348

Another one from today, scale-model-ship-builders are preparing their work for public display (amazing, how many hours of work are put into those scale-models):

PC 85/2.8D tilted (or better "swung") along the ships - effective f/7.6, some shift applied, maybe a bit more shift upwards would have been better

Samy, nice work on film and your D800's sensor! The "Egypt"-shot looks like a good still from an old movie. Love the film-colors! From the Govan's church and cemetery the first two images are my favs.

Wow, really like the gritty feel with this. The man pops out because he is so smooth compared to the gritty wall.

Since I am a sucker for scale models, I really enjoyed this. I used to do scale model, radio controlled, cars and airplanes. I miss my Tiger Moth airplane anytime the air is calm and about 78 degrees.

Ronny, congrats to your fast 50! I'm really curious about your way to use this lens.

Ray, the triple door is very nice. The flag reflected in the window is a nice touch. The 28/2.8 Ais seem to show almost no distortion - great!

Ken, the fisheye-shot almost looks surreal, very special. At first I thought it was a double-exposure too.

Sandy, thanks for sharing your set from Cuba. The tree is fantastic - what a find!

Thanks, Kevin! The sailing vessel (over 2 meters long) is actually a RC-model. Without electrical main engine, it will and has to sail. I've asked the very friendly builder about how many times he had to jump into the sea to bring it home and he said "only once" - he had mistakingly installed the old batteries again, and not the fresh re-charged ones ;-)
The motor-vessels in front are very close scale-copies of ships who did service in my hometown.

there is the 10.5mm dx fisheye as well, that you can de-fish in software.

OK another question for the experts. My DX 1.5 factor makes me yearn for something good and wide but small and compact. Is a 20mm going to be enough? do I really want to drag a huge tokina 11-16 around? Whats the prime lens solution for wide on DX and manual ais-esq
