Tried a Nikon Close-Up-lens No.0 on the Ais-Nikkor 85/2 - it works, but the gain in magnification is minimal and the tendency to flare "enhanced" to say the least.
Had to pump up the contrast quite a bit, but for my style of shooting and processing it worked out:

Olympus Pen von georgsfoto auf Flickr
Some Japanese half-frame Heavy Metal from the past (it's still a light camera ;-)
Ais-Nikkor 85/2 wide open, Close-Up-lens No.0, Nikon D700, cropped a bit

Wow Jeff, beautiful series. Made me read up on brass rings too, the first I've ever heard of them

Thanks Leighton, Georg and Chin.

Georg, the hockey stick image is terrific with the bokeh through the scarred plexi-glass.

Lsds, I really like your first palace shot.

Chin, really like the the very subtle water and reflections in your harbor shot.

Laura - Very hard to capture the chutes the way you did with a 300mm. The inverted F86 is very good!
Peter - The outbuilding with the tin roof is a classic.
Reagan - Yeah I know! I will record the race and play I back w/o commercials. You have the junction of 1-4 and 95 to worry about. I'm for a bow-tie winner and like the Hendrick's team, then Tony Stewart..
Ray - We're back let's meet for lunch this week if you are free. You pick!
Jeff - Your carousals are really well done and interesting. I have been playing with my 105 and it seems like it will be one that is always packed.
Gregg - I thinks its great that anyone can buy five great MF lenses for the cost of one plastic, mediocre AF.
Andy - Very good indeed!
Samy - The St.Alphonsus speaks of yesterday's craftsman and I for one am glad you make an effort to capture them so well!
Georg - That's some ship. I processed another from the Yorktown for you.
LSDS - I think the way you handled the light on the building in the second shot is terrific. With the pano it makes a nice series.
Chin - I like the Harbor shot, very clean!

We made it back from South Carolina and the sun is shining and the skies are blue. Took 1100 shots and got them to download and reviewed them quickly. I've got three "Phantom's" for upload in order of "seniority" of the services.

Georg, I like both the navy vessel and the hockey sticks. Your PC work on the ship is first rate.

Samy, beautiful interior of the St Alphonsus church. It is definitely in need of some renovation work. Start with the roof/gutters.

Rafael, really like what you do with the 15 3.5. Very low distortion, nice contrast and colors. Now if they were a bit cheaper!

Laura, nice capture of the Sabre jet. I think the image is upside down though.

Jeff, nice takes of the carousel. Love the colors and composition of the giraffe.

Chin, beautiful Singapore harbor image. Just a well you did not cross the line.

Ken, nice Phantom series.

Thank you all for the comments and likes on the "Down by the Station" image. Still snowing lightly today but the sun is threatening to poke through.

I agree. I am growing my collection of Series E glass. I started with the 50, then the 28, followed by the 100 and the 75-150. I hope to have them all.

Indeed..I have the 50,28 and the 100..Never disappoint or fail to amaze me with the simplicity of design. Sad the way the reviews bash them so much.. Have not started exploring their capacity reversed yet..hope to soon.

Don't miss the 35mm f/2.5, it's a very good lens too. I have also the 50mm, the 100mm and the 75-150mm and I like them all.
I have been unlucky with the 28mm, two bad copies but I will try again.

I see Fred has made a posting in the Weekly Assignment forum looking for theme ideas. I threw a couple of this threads favorites in: Bokeh and Rust.

The 28 isn't so great, but the 50 is. The 100 is about the same magnification either way.

The 28 is a tough lens in general. It needs to be shot at f/5.6 for any good and consistent results. Wide open it is so-so on a crop sensor, so I imagine it is worse on FF. I haven't tried the 35 and I think your shot is the only one I have seen with it. I don't use that focal length much, but want to add it anyway.

I've been spending too much time on this thread ..... and eBay. I'm up to 5 MF Nikkors now and a month ago I had none.

I won a 105 f2.5 AI-s and a 50 f1.4 AI-s in the last few days on eBay to add to my 28 f2, 35 f2.8 and 200 f4 Micro.

All my AF Nikkors are feeling unloved......

I'm proud of you Gregg. That was pretty much how it happened for me after I'd bought my first MF Nikkor, the venerable 105 f/2.5 AI-s. I started this thread with eight MF lenses. If you check my profile you'll see that this particular disease doesn't have a quick cure. I stopped buying because I'd bought everything I imagined I'd want to own. The three lenses that might be interesting are simply too expensive for a retired hobbyist to consider. If my pockets were deeper, I'd probably buy those as well.

Be careful to stay away from pre-AI lenses. That was what did me in when I thought I'd come to the end of my purchasing.

Glad you found this thread and that you're enjoying the adventure.

How wonderful that you decided to "introduce" yourself. This was my hope when I started this thread on August 22, 2010. I stumbled on these lenses and so enjoyed the experience I thought I'd share my enthusiasm. Over the years there have been many folks who've had your experience. There have even been people shooting other systems who were inspired by this thread to give Nikon a try, simply to mount one or another MF Nikkor lens.

The great part about it, has been the arrival of so many outstanding photographers willing to share their work with us. I hope now that you've put your big toe into this water, that you'll decide to jump in. If you do, I'd encourage you to add your first name to your profile. We're on a first name basis here. I'd be delighted to have another person from Europe participating. Having someone from Belgium might even encourage my good friend Rinie who lives in Rotterdam to join us once again.

Hope to see you back again soon.

Reagan, you'll need a refresher on posting... One set of images is enough...

Nice images though...

Is the 28 f/2 in your kit building scheme? That is a great price for a first rate lens. You'd pay more than that for the f/2.8. It would be nice to keep the lens in the family. I loved shooting with my version of that lens while traveling in Turkey. It is a great performer.

So the rain stopped and the sun came out. The camera bag finally made it to the car, but I didn't take any photos until I got home. Very mundane photos but then some are better than none. Who knows where this might lead...

These were shot with the 105 f/1.8 AI-s with both a PK-11A and PK-12 attached. Shot at f/5.6.
