Was passing through the desert today between appointments and stopped to smell the roses. The desert flowers are just beginning to bloom in the high desert @3000 ft. Should be great in a week or so. Only had a 50mm f1.4 AI-s with me today for MF on my D700.

Old gas station 1/6400 sec @ f2.8. Not sure if I missed focus a tad or the lens just isn't that great at infinity. It's not absolutely tack sharp as I would like or as this same lens does close in. I do like the bokeh from this lens.

Desert wildflowers just starting to bloom 1/6400 @ f4.0

Same flowers with a different background 1/1200 @ f8.0

Nice series Andy, but the weather on the east coast doesn't look to flash!

Cheers and good light,

Reagan

A lot of those buildings in that area are used for movies. They are well posted with "No Trespassing" signs. The signs on this one were just out of the frame. Some of the other local structures used in film are surrounded with removable chain link fences which come out for shooting and go back after shooting is completed. The church from the wedding in "Kill Bill" is one. Also the Green colored old diner you see in many films and TV shows.

A friend of mine has an old bar, gas station and auto repair shop nearby that he gets $2,000.00 per day for movie, commercial and rock video shoots. It was recently used in a Land Rover commercial. His place was in the 30 second spot for maybe 3 seconds and for that he got $6k.

What is it with MF Nikon lenses and eBay ?

I put in a $113.00 bid on an 85mm f2.0 AI-s with multiple scratches on the rear element. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=141228748863&ssPageName=ADME:BNA:US:3160

On a good day this is a $200 lens and the scratches looked pretty substantial to me. The lens sold for $140.50 plus $12.00 shipping. That's $152.00 for a damaged $200 lens. What are people thinking

There is no way that can be repaired (if the elements are even available) for less then $125.00.

I don't get it. What am I missing here?

What you are missing is that you shouldn't be bidding on a lens with a scratched rear element

I was thinking it would make a good, slightly soft focus, portrait lens for the one or two portraits I shoot over the course of a year

All I can say Gregg is that I'm glad I bought most of my lenses a few years ago before prices began escalating. I understand that this thread has probably had an impact of MF prices but they're still a bargain. They're even a some steals out there but you have to stay alert and keep track of the market. David, our Aussie friend did well in buying a 24 f/2.8 AI-s from Reagan and I lent a hand so he could get a great deal on a 135 f/2.8 Q.C. with the Nikon AI conversion kit installed. It is the early bird that gets the worm... sometimes on E-Bay, sometimes at other sites. Keep your eyes open and your wallet handy...

Thanks. I believe the term for those is "Arty farty shit"

They look very Vikingesque but what that has to do with Melbourne I don't know.

I'm glad I only have 1 maybe 2 more lenses to purchase for my kit. I think the Df has a little to do with as well, since you can use pre AI lenses on it.
