Leighton's permanent mantra about the 50-135/3.5 worked, but sadly I got out-bid on a nice example…

This site looks a bit bald without images, so here are just a few fresh snaps from neighbor's garden.
Nothing really nice, just some wide-open-snaps to check out the Ais 85/2's rendering.

D700 + 85/2 Ais wide-open - the soft rendering here might be result of some manually induced back-focus ;-/

bio-style tree-protection against small crawling and nibbling animals
bio-gardening is trendy over here

this tiny apple got trapped while trying to follow Newton's law…
D700 + 85/2 Ais wide-open at minimum focusing distance

D700 + 85/2 Ais wide-open at about minimum focusing distance

Great examples of the 85/2 Georg. I really like the apple in the fork image. Too bad about being outbid, keep trying.

Georg, did you check to see if it was some guy from Virginia that outbid you?

Haha thanks thanks
I think what's really cool for when we travel to lesser known regions
And that we always try to look for local craftsmen and produce
We meet people who are truly passionate about what they do

>>

So twice in a single day!
My friend rattled off a list of Japanese meals
Yet none struck our fancy
Until my wife asked if it was possible to have a kaiseki dinner
A multi-course meal, each piece fashioned in small delectable morsels

I thought the guy was young for his age to come out and open his own traditional resto
In an age where fast food dominates and french/italian cuisine are considered top-of-the-line for the young
The place was quiet, with only two other tables filled with, as you would have it, elderly women
Yet the dinner was one of the best I've had
Maybe it's how the spotlights accentuate the furrows in his brow as he slices through fish
Threads bamboo skewers through octopi
Grills meat over a small tabletop charcoal broiler

We sat a bit aways so I brought out the... 135 2.8 AIS

Leighton and Scott - I'll keep trying to find a modest-priced 50-135/3.5. But with an arsenal of about 3 dozen MF-Nikkor's I'm not in a hurry ;-) The 25-50/4 is another Zoom-Nikkor I'd love to try. The buy-it-now-prices and second-hand-dealer-offerings are too high for my taste, but sooner or later…

Chin, "Hiring a hitman for yourself" sounds like you like Finnish movies ;-) A very nice shot - I can feel the energy of the cook. Love the colors too.

Haha that's actually from a favorite Hong Kong movie of mine, must have watched it more than 50 times
God of Cookery by Stephen Chow
The full movie's available on youtube actually with english subs, not sure how well it would hold up that way though

Are there somewhere in this super big thread talking about which Nikon body is the best for MF only lenses? D800 is over my budget. So D700 vs D610 or maybe APS-C?

Thanks, J

Mihai, I really hope we'll see some of your work here again soon. Maybe you can step out of your trap, but don't rush it ;-)

You need some patience and tobacco... One day I'll be back, hopefully soon. In the meantime I'm enjoying your pictures...

Chin great capture and great timing with the 135mm 2.8 which is my next scheduled walk around lens

Any of them that can meter with the AI/AIS lenses. The FF bodies are easier to focus with because of the larger viewfinders. I would say either the D600 or 700 would be ideal. If you tend to shoot long than a D7000/7100 would be good.

Welcome J! I'm not sure there is a best. We have a few using the D200, D300, D700, D600 and D7000/7100's Personally I do believe that they shine on a FF body, but many get just as great results on a crop. I think you have to try them out to see which is best for you.

Here's one more from my 50mm 1.4.
I am following advice from our good friend Ray from Ohio in deciding whether to get the 50mm 1.2 or the 135mm 2.0 So I spent the day using my 50mm 1.4 and my 135mm 2.8 is next in line to see which I would prefer

Samy, part of the fun of using film-cameras is the excitement when pulling the freshly developed* film out of the spool/tank. In some cases shooting with vintage gear is such a great experience that the pictorial output is never as nice as the joy while handling well-crafted old gear. I'm a weirdo** in this matter, but sometimes I don't care for the final pictures - the process of shooting with a Leica M3, framing with that fantastic finder, the feel/haptic of this superbly engineered equipment is more important than looking at the pictures done with it.
I'm sure the same feelings

No time for commenting on all the pages, but I enjoyed every single image here the last few pages. Georg, congrats on the 85 2 and thanks for demonstrating its undervalued capability. Jose, superb zoological behavior image again Nikos, great job on the Caterpillar! Ray, forgot you had the 50 1.4 K, very nice character in those images, you should break it out more. Steve, you had some very nice images including the waterfall and the Leica coven. Some day if I make it over the pond and to Manchester, will have to look into your Leica outlet and
