This thread has picked up the pace again ....

Only a couple of days and four or five pages later .... I can barely keep up these days ...

It may be because I have been working a lot just recently .... that's it ... I'll blame it on work !!!

Arranging a Leica S & M weekend event .... oooooooer ..... no ... a S system and M system event in the Lake District of the UK

It's going to be busy but so much fun .... Leica users think they own the world !!!

But I will be there to bring them back to earth ....

Chin great night time shots .... Love the bitter matcha ice-cream shot

Andy those 105 mm shots are brilliant !!! Not sure about that lizard .... it's got a hungry look in it's eye !!

Goerg, you do add the fun element every now and then .... great feature with the police !!! That's arresting !!

The deck pier out into the lake is a great use of the 20mm Ray ... I have one I played with a while ago and made it reach all the way across as a bridge ...

Scott .... looks like you are getting it a little cold and frost right now ... great snow pix ... are you Rochester NY or Minnesota?

Jose that tiny jumping spider is great ... nice work !!

John, I love the layering from the light in your sunset shots .... your skys are much more gentle that ours were the other day !!

Great mono shot down the back lane Don, plenty of atmosphere.

Great action shot of the cat Mitch

Nice detail Eric and frosty .... brrrrrrr !!!

An eleven shot pano looking behind me when I shot the sunset shots the other day ....

It's been said before ... but it's always worth looking the other way when you seen the sunset ....

On such a storm laden day and sky ... I was surprised to see it come up like this ....

Merge seems to have got some banding in it .... I might try to work that out some time

D4 using the 50-135 f3.5 @ ISO 400 at approx 85mm

It obviously pays to look the other way some days !! Ask any pantomime goer !!!

Oh no it doesn't ...... Oh yes, it does !!!!!

Steve

Georg - great police image

Ray - lovely calm lake and the jetty is perfectly placed.

Andy - I love the cat, not too sure about the monitor although it's very well captured!

Chin - great night shot. Your titles always intrigue me

Steve - gorgeous cloudscape.

Ray, Great shot! I've been trying to do that for a while at Lake Hancock but never caught it like you did. My 20 2.8 is arriving today as per Adorama's tracking so I'll need to play a bit.

Here's are a couple taken in August using my wife's D7000 and a 25-50 set wide. Its an amazing lens with lots of utility. I hope the second one brings some warmth to our neighbors. The first is at bar/ sea food place on Siesta Key ... I don't quite know what to make of it.

No sunset but had a walk along the pier at Palm Cove and this is the view. Usually blue skies but The Monsoon is coming !!! I live 3 beach suburbs down, which is in the picture to the right of the hill which is called Yorkey's Knob !

Thanks for the thanks btw, the monitor is already eyeing up the kitten apparently

Stokesey - no one on here except you and me have any idea what a panto is you know !

Ken - maybe it's like "no fat chicks" ?

Steve, beautiful capture on "Sunset looking the other way".
Scott, "Vestiges of a Holiday Past" is very well seen and captures.
Georg, I looked over at the "flare" thread, now that's using your tools in terms of the flare characteristics of the lens.
John, what a wonderful capture of your daughter.
Don, "He's had a lot of luck" is first class all the way!
Chin, "The right ratio in 60 degree water" is awesome - now I want dessert!

To those still in the deep freeze stay safe and warm. Post a few pics along too. Here in Ohio they have a Snow Emergency Level system, and we were placed on the highest level today in the county and all surrounding counties where I reside, which in theory made it illegal to be out on the roads unless you were deemed "essential".

I picked up another Nikon kit and need some expert opinions from you guys.

I now have a 28mm f/3.5 Nikkor-H and a 105mm f/2.5 Nikkor-P. Both are in pristine condition, glass is perfect and focus is baby butt smooth. They spent their lives with filters on them. The 105 is in a Nikon leather case.

Are they worth converting to AI? I have duplicate focal lengths so I'm thinking of just selling them as is. Owners of the new Df camera can use them unconverted if I read that correctly.

There was even a nice Nikon F Photomic body included that still had film in it.

Lucky enough to catch a Cicada emerging last week next to the pool.

We often find the casings on trees but I've never seen one emerging. They cast off the older exoskeleton to allow themselves to grow. The way the wings "appear" from little stumps is amazing.

This isn't the most attractive type, hopefully I might catch one of the bigger green and orange ones next time - I plan to do a timelapse video next time.

Ray, I like the low point of view and symmetrical framing on your park-shot. The vertical one shown over at your flickr is even better in my opinion ;-)

Andy, very nice pet-portraits! I really like the Cicada's metamorphosis.
No crocs in the local rivers here, but a dachshund ("Dackel") was victim of a large wels catfish.
More people get hurt by over-motivated hunters than by "wild animals" in the woods here.

Steve and Ken - nice sunsets!

Ray from Ohio, please feel free to send over up to 12 inches of snow More seriously - I hope you'll stay safe. The cold-front is subject in the news and papers over here too.

Ray, Peter, Steve, Scott and Andy - thanks for your comments on the "Police-scene"!

I've tried the Nikkor-H 85/1.8 very briefly for some quick night-shots, was eager to see if I could get "cool" flare with it.
It seems to need really strong and small light-sources to start ghosting off:

Andy - Love the last Cicada image, cool looking wings.

Georg - I like the flare in this one, has a UFO feel to it. Have you given the 85/2 a spin yet?

Great work on the capture of the cicada Andy! Now that's timing.
Georg, you have me thinking about picking up some $40 ugly condition lens just to play with flare and other lens "imperfections".

Here's a winter sunset from yesterday.

^WOW! Ray, this is one of your best, I just love the hint of color on the snow, not to mention the composition. Very well done, and with the 50-135 to boot!

Ray, wonderful and very moody winter-image. Just like Leighton I really like the colors and the fine compo.

Ray, Leighton and Andy - thanks for your comments!
Ray, yes, playing with imperfections can be a lot of fun. I will try the 85H for sure the next time I'm shooting portraits of people who work with or under stage-light (actors, musicians, maybe stage-workers).
Sometimes really beaten-up and scratched lenses will perform surprisingly well. The Nikkor-H 85/1.8 and the PC 28/3.5 are for now my champs in the "artistic flare"-department ;-)
Both lenses are fairly clean without haze or scratches worth being mentioned.
Leighton, the 85/2 Ais is still in the mail.
