Raymond this one seems to be good and is foldable. You have 3 positions depending on focal lenght you are shooting.

Glad I could help you out Raymond! Yes I had the 400 2.8 on my wishlist but I think it will stay on it forever.

JD, nice kit, glad to see the 50-135 in the mix!

I'd like to know your thoughts on why you like the 180 over the 135. Is it because the FL suits you better, or something else?

It's mostly FL. If I'm not carrying one of my big lens's then the 180 is the long FL in my bag, and it still has 2.8 speed that I like. I like the 135 allot and it's usually in my bag. When I want to save a little weight I pull the 135, 80-200 and sometimes the other zooms, and if I know I don't want to use my AF stuff then a few of them and leave them all in the truck. When I get back they go back in.

I like the rendering on the 135 QC and when I get the 135/2 that may bump both it and the 180 but we'll see when that happens.

I haven't used my zooms much at all, but plan to get out one day and try out all my zooms and see which ones I like. Waiting to get the 25-50, and maybe upgrade the 80-200 from 4.5 to 4.0 model.

JD

Thanks for your answer.

I've been wanting the 135/2 for a long time, but my beloved 50-135 seems to fit the bill rather nicely at that FL so I'm in no hurry. The 180 is SO good, I HAVE to carry it with me at all times. I only own one other MF zoom, the venerable 80-200/4.5, but I'm not crazy about the bokeh so it doesn't get much work.

Chin, I turned 32 in August, 30 years ago, you are young but use it well it goes fast!

I have not been taking pictures, too busy with Xmas and home repairs. I do miss this thread, will read the last 13 pages as one of the best online magazines and comment on those.

The lake paddle boats are interesting Chin. Why do a pano? does it change perspective, or just for fun? The Tokyo pano I get, it is beautiful

Andy, great tropical flowers, makes me homesick, I don't quite like cats, but getting one for focusing practice makes sense, the old cars are overdone, but if you like them you like'em, we had a Bedford truck of the same vintage at the coffee farm, diesel....

The seasons have changed Samy

Curtis, this is not La La land, it is the city of our Lady of the Angels, famous for its fruits and nuts.

Leighton, your gorgeous days would kill a tropical creature, but the lighting is beautiful

Nice Yosemite shots Jeff

Ray, was going to ask you what national park in FLA has granite falls to photograph with the 20mm, but the castle gave it away.

Your owl needs to diet Luc. The Duesie does not, you know that that is an american car right? So is the stingray for that matter

Peter, the best macro lens is the PN 11

Congrats on the 500 p JD, love the Pelikans too

Nice dinosaur use of the 16mm James, you too HCE

Keep turning the perspective knob Steve

Great macros Ronny, the 180mm is so good a tool for this

Went to my archive to find something to share: an 8mm illusion.

So I finally converted my 135/2 K lens with the help of raboof. A few weeks ago, I found what I thought was a great deal on a 135/2 AI-s, that turned out to be an older K version. It was my mistake and clearly stated in the ebay listing AND photos that I failed to see (lesson learned: never surf ebay on your iPhone).

Anyway, raboof hooked me up with his spare AI #41 kit for my lens which are almost impossible to find now. I had a hell of a time removing the top screws even with a set

After realizing I haven't used the 50-135 3.5 yet. I decided I should take a few pic's with it and see how it handles. So I took it to my favorite local park and found the White Pelicans were out in force! I think I counted 14 on this small pond today.

Must say I was pretty happy with it, nice lens especially for a zoom.

Thanks for looking,
JD

I have the ais Rick, bought it from Germany a few years back, it came with an insect which likely crawled in across the Atlantic. Nikon Cleaned it like new for $60 bucks, then they charged me $400 to do the same to a 15mm this year.... (No insect, just cleaning)

JD you might think that it's an upgrade for the 80-200 from 4.5 to f 4.0. But the f4.5 is one of the best and sharpest nikon MF zooms. I have both. And am convinced that the f4.5 is the better lens

So if you do "upgrade" keep the f4.5 too

After all. It's all part of kit building.

IMHO of course

Steve

I'm so slow sometimes

I just worked out that the 135 f2 on a DX body becomes the same as a 200mm ish f2.0

Now that is a weight off my shoulders

Steve thanks for the info. I heard someone else say that also. I have a number of other lens's and upgrades I plan to do well before that one so I may never get around to it lol.

Here is one more from the park with the 50-0135 3.5. Just a funny photo, not sure what caused the panic but the organized line of feeding pelicans formed a nice road block. by the end of it they were almost stacked on top of each other in front of the pelicans

It is hard to be creative with this lens, I have posted many pictures here before, will repost a couple for you, small but you can go to flickr if you want to see more. Bought it because a wanted a semi-exotic for my collection, but it is fun to take for a spin once in a while. As it is my most uncommon lens is a 15mm 5.6 ai or maybe the 600mm nippon kogaku 5.6 P.
