yes, very interesting Ray. May I ask a noob question? why is the background so blue? was that your choice? can it be any colour (I'm guessing it depends where you shoot the snowflake?)

Thanks for the kind comments on the actors and my first PC 35/2.8-attempts!

Here's a shot from last summer - took this one close to Ronny's home.

Skillinge - 20/3.5Ais at f/4 - ISO6400 and 1/2sec to deal with the boats movement (swell in the small harbour)
I really like the VSCO-film-presets for mixed-light-shots.

Here's an experiment. First, the setup (sorry, not shot with a Nikon, simply to show the setup). The pictures are still a severe crop from a D800 file.

Love it! That setup is nearly the same setup I used for my daddy long legs shot from last year.

Andy - I like!

Peter - Mont Blanc! some one already said breathtaking...

Samy - Some terrific church shots. The alley is my favorite

Georg - Thanks for the V1 comments and tips

Reagan - I missed NCRS in Kissimmee but in doing so I save money! Like my driver rear view?

Ben - I'm new to this thread but have been reading from the beginning and look forward to seeing your work!

I went out today and it is a dull dreary day. I definitely learn from others here and look for things to shoot that are apart from my normal routine.

I thought of Reagan and thought he might enjoy my rear view mirror.

A couple pages back Curtis commented on assignments that would include shooting something a 100 years old and commented the Europeans had it made. So today, I found a 230 year old "Indian" burial mound.

Ken, thanks for the history lesson. I'm sort of embarrassed to admit this, but I didn't realize there were any battles during the revolutionary war fought in Florida.

Leighton,

I'm in South Carolina where this was taken. I have to do some research because Florida was Spanish ruled then English ruled at the time of the war for independence and there were some engagements in the panhandle.

We do have some Civil War battle fields, the largest being Olustee, where 2000 Union and 1000 Confederate died. There is an Olustee re-enactment in the middle of February and my buddy has been promoted to 1st Sergeant and I'm bringing the camera.

Ben, the blue is a consequence of setting a tungsten white balance outdoors. The background is out of focus pine trees that would render grayish due to under exposure.

Fons welcome to the thread especially using the 35-70 3.5. It is for sure one of Nikkors sleeper lenses!

Ken very nice use of the V1 beautiful colors. What a great saying on your rearview mirror. Love the car!

Larry I really like your bike, Sharp colorful photos with the 50mm 1.8 - one of Nikon's sharpest lenses

Andy the "chilling photo" is my favorite

Curtis so great to see you posting - great shot!

Samy you are getting very good at architecture but I like the flare and ghosts the best!

Georg your post work is just amazing! The harbor photo is one of my favorites of yours - super nice

Reagan looks like you are getting used to the D7100 - nice shots!

Ben It's great to see you posting again. We have missed your contributions. Love the little boy in tears BTW I love the Mustang

Peter your first photo is stunning! What a vista!

Chin great separation on the catwalk

Scott your first photo is one of your very best - truly amazing photo.

Matthew welcome to the thread and what a great photo of the little hands. Is that your son?

Raymond your snowflake photos are wonderful. I think that these are well worth framing!

We are blessed by having some of the best photographers on the net. I was away one day and ended up five pages behind. All the pages were filled with terrific photos!

Leighton sorry somehow I missed your comment earlier when you said the 55mm 1.2 K might end up being my favorite lens. Today I took the lens over to the garden next door to try it out in the real world. All of the photos are at 1.2 because my aperture ring hasn't come back yet. Most of the reviews I read about this lens say it isn't sharp at 1.2, but from what I experienced today I think they are wrong. This may very well end up being my favorite lens

Ken, interesting history-lesson and a very cool sports-car! That said, we have single digits (in Fahrenheit) here and will get some snow tomorrow, I'm glad that my banged up Subaru is equipped with 4WD and heated drivers seat

Leighton and Ray - thanks for your comments! I have a thing for small and older fishing vessels and couldn't withstand this one. Stopping down to f/8 or smaller would have produced some cool stars from the lamps, but had to shoot as fast as possible because of the swell-related boat-moves.
Grain is visible (not much from the D3,s, rather from the VSCO-plugin), but not at this size.
Did some stunts back in film-times, pushed Konica 3200 color-negative-film and got a grain that was so big that it looked like everything was in focus. It's amazing that I add grain to otherwise pretty clean ISO6400-shots today ;-)

Ray, now that's a very nice set with the 55/1.2! Your copy looks pretty sharp wide open. The purple-fringing on #1 is a bit disturbing, though

Thank you all for your comments on my first day with my 200 AI Micro and for welcoming me into this little corner of the internet.

I tried to get out today but it started raining...Can you believe that, rain in southern California...What's this world coming to

I really enjoy all the photos posted, especially old wooden boats....Thanks georgms

Anyone have a Nikon AI-s 28mm f2.8 they would like to sell. I have been scouring the net for one at a reasonable price.
