Nice work everyone. Just to mention a couple, Georg I like the naval ship image. Leighton, the pasture and silos in b&w is very well done. Like this very much.

Thank you all for the comments and likes. Looks like the cold is going to stay for awhile. Throw another log on the fire!

I thought I would try a little birding with the 85mm 1.4. Luckily for me the pelicans cooperated and let me get pretty close. All of these were shot at 1.4 aperture.

A few more from yesterday. One was just a massive post processing of a hopelessly over-exposed shot. Sometimes you just have to go with the overexposure in post when it's too blown to save.

Welcome Gregg, that 200 F4.0 looks to be in great condition.

I'm in lurker mode for a month or so with the new job and moving on weekends. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot some in there somewhere.

Ian, that's an excellent portrait with the 50/1.2! I like the framing a lot, the red stripe at left works great. The not super-soft light makes this fine shot look more "lively" compared to a shot with totally diffused light.

Welcome Gregg. You know you won't be able to stop with just one! Looking forward to your images.

Ray, those are very very good. I'm with Scott, I love the first one.

John, Sometimes what might seem like a mistake, actually becomes art. Case in point, your ferry pic.

Ray, the first Pelican-shot is a wonderful capture. Birding with a 85/1.4 wide open is very cool, love the rendering of the Nikkor.

John, I like the ferry-shot a lot. The graphic processing works great.

Gregg, congrats to your 200 Micro! I hope we'll see some of your work with it soon.

Eavers Farm is top notch Leighton. I like how you've processed it; the snow looks like it is glaring like it truly was under that sunshine.

Ian, I could tell it was your portrait before I saw the name.

Scott, the museum is a neat place to visit, even without a camera. If you choose to shoot, though, a tripod is recommended.

Ray, nice pelican images. I usually have a hard time deciding how bright to represent white feathers, but i looks like you got a good balance between bright and keeping some saturation in the yellows. Wish the interesting birds around here would let me get closer. Only "tame" species are the Canadian Geese 'round here.

Nice backlit ferry rescue, John.

Welcome, Fons. Cool first pic of the horse. My apologies if it's just your screen name and not your actual name.

Jay, I am feeling the warmth! Thanks for sharing that.

Well, it's warming up, we were at 8 degrees this morning! Both of these were with the 28/2.8 AIS.

Fons, Mr. G,
I posted my first thread here just after the new year and have been welcomed and encouraged by all. So now that you have become the newest members I turn that privilege over to you and also welcome you!

Ian - Beautiful portrait
Jay- I like the perspective of the yellow building. Is that a water tank atop ... is it a pump house?
Ray - Where oh where did you catch the great Pelican shots? Absolutely some of the best I've seen! I got a V1 and the FT1 from Marshall's and have posted some shots below. Can't wait to see what it can do in the real world and would like to take it to Sebring at the end of a monopod.
Leighton - The sunrise and the contrails tell me its cold. What a great thing to see every morning. Ralphie say's "beware of the icicles when you shoot your Red Ryder BB gun!"
John - The kids framed by the sun is a favorite. I have a trip coming and hope to add a ferry trip in the next week to ten days.

I've been playing. I got a V1 with the FT1 adaptor and the shots are from it. The crop factor is 2.7.
All are wide open, hand held shot on manual using the viewfinder.

The first and second is with the 105 2.5 Ai-S focused on the seam of the cloth and the second on the duck. Very thin and without focus confirmation.

The third is the 100-300 5.6 focused on the vent stack across the road. The crop is 810mm.

Gregg welcome to the thread. Great example of the 200mm Micro. It looks to b very sharp indeed!
Fons welcome to our thread. What a beautiful horse. I love how the 135 f2 obliterates the background - terrific shot !
Leighton beautiful sunrise and the blue ice is fantastic! I sometimes see the sunrise on my way to bed
Ken great use of the V1. I have always been curious about that camera and have even considered getting one. Can't wait to see it in action.

Thank you Scott, Peter, Leighton, Georg, Raymond and Ken for your comments on the pelican photos.
