Glad you like the perverse use of the fisheye! I should give the 20mm a try on the K1 tube, but unfortunately my 20 is a plastic AF lens.

I had an outing with the 28mm PC, a lens that I like the mechanics of better than the performance. Here's a shot with a modest amount of rise and a polarizer shot at f/8 with a D800.

Jay - I really like seeing the 16 being used as a micro lens!

Georg - Really nice way you framed that ship.

Ken - Thanks for the "Florida Snow"...NOT!

Ray - That's a gorgeous shot of the swans! Beautiful exposure as well as composition.

Great subject and color here Jay. Is it my eyes, or does it look like it's leaning to the right a bit?

Thanks for your comments on my recently posted shots!
I don't know if I should feel sorry about posting the hand-painted ashtray-image. It wasn't my intention to cause nausea among my fellow MFNG-shooters here.
Basically, I think there's nothing wrong with capturing ugly, yet kinda unique and strange stuff like this - as this is the reality, the world I live in or on ;-/
But I will think twice before posting stuff like this here again.

Georg, keep posting away. Just conveying my reaction to the photo, not a request to stop.

Georg, great way to frame the naval vessel, adds a lot to an otherwise "boat on the water" shot even though that is quite a "boat".

Ray, two whumbs up on the swan shot. Super composition, all the swans close by to where I live would never tolerate such a close approach, even 400mm is too short. That or the wetland areas are too big and they can simply stay in the middle of the ponds, but they are skittish.

Scott, nice "cool" sunrise, I've alwys appreciated atmospheric shots like these.

Seriously, a 30cm frog? Would like to see a full body shot, Andy. The close up is great work, by the way, especially the selection of the sharp area of focus.

Palm trees in DC - now that's a way to escape, Samy. What's the temperature at that spot? I would just park there for awhile.

Barbara and took a drive this morning to check out what the snow left behind. Here's the only one I came home with.

Leighton, love the texture of the forest. It looks like worn fabrics. Excellent framing too.

Jay, ^^now that's a cozy image! Btw, ditto on the mechanical qualities of the 28 PC-Nikkor. A well machined lens with challenged optics ;-)

Ray from Florida - very nice swans-image, but the shot posted at flickr (the billing pelicans) is even better!

Leighton Lovely B&W. At least you don't have to shovel too much!

I hope the tower looks better, thanks for letting me know.

I found that the polarizing filter did not make any difference in vignetting, and the color boost helps.

Peter, the kids have a surf trip to SA on their bucket list. Sounds really nice.

It is - I live a couple of hours away from two world famous spots - Jeffrey's Bay and Cape St Francis

Check em out at http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Jeffreys+bay+surf&qpvt=Jeffreys+bay+surf&FORM=IGRE and http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Jeffreys+bay+surf&qpvt=Jeffreys+bay+surf&FORM=IGRE

There is also serious big wave surfing in Cape Town in winter but the water is freezing and the waves enormous. See http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Cape+Town+surf&go=&qs=ds&form=QBIR

Cheers

I just did that a few minutes ago and now I'm sitting by the woodstove typing this. Single digits again tonight.

Hi ALl

I've been lurking in this thread for a while. Thoroughly enjoyed all the photos.

I just bought a Micro Nikkor 200mm f4 AI lens in near mint condition and hope to be joining your party.

I tested it briefly at my desk last night and was blown away by the sharpness, contrast and quality of the results.

The lens.....

And the obligatory ruler photo hand held on my D700 with the onboard flash, shot wide open. It only gets better when I stop it down. The CA gets much better stopped down.

I cannot wait to get out to some gardens with it this weekend. Sunny and high 70's here in So Cal. Sorry for all of you freezing back east.

At f4

And at f16

Here its catching up to the snowyscape that Scott from two states up seems to show all the time. Scott, this was just opening the window just enough and poking the lens through, no wandering around in the snow and wind 50 1.2 AIS and the barrel of the lens slipped a bit on the slick window sill

Nice abstract Samy. The car window technique sounds much smarter (warmer and safer) than wandering around out in the elements.

Ray, that's one reason I like the Checker Cab shot too - I worked to get it to look like it was not in a museum.

Jay, great shot of the Bolivar-Galveston Ferry. I love to ride them and I find the names for each one interesting. I really want to ride one at night to capture some nightscapes.
