Thanks Kevin and Scott! I went quickly on flickr and you have a nice set there Kevin. I was impressed to see pictures with a very old lens you have, from a strange manufacturer.

One more try with the same setup:

I like this one as well!

Which lens are you talking about? I assume you are referring to the A. Schacht Ulm 135mm f/3.5? That lens is a blast to use when you have the time to setup the shot. The focusing helical is is fine that it takes two full turns to go from MFD to infinity. It also has 18(!!) aperture blades. No real sun stars out of it, but I love how it renders skin. I don't know how well it does on FF, but on APS-C, it's excellent.

Scott, the framing of #2 is great. The muted tones works very well. Still no snow here, maybe I should try to leave my hometown as stowaway on the ark ;-)

Scott, these are very nice. I think you'd enjoy the book I recommended to Georg.

Another shot with the 85/2 Ais (any 85 would have worked as well), subject is the infamous "Sonnenblumenhaus", where the racist/xenophobic riots from August 1992 took place.

Leighton, Peter, Reagan and George: I simply thank you!

Scott, good to see some winter landscapes! Fortunately this winter is very mild in our part of the world, something totally unusual. I cannot say that I'm unhappy!

Yep... that lens... seems to be something exotic. Great IQ for a so old technology!

Georg, I'm definitely a fan of your pictures and I'm enjoying a lot these done with 85/2. I have a chipped copy that's full of dust... I do need to put it at work one day. My copy is good not great at f2 but from f2.8 is very sharp. Its size and weight is a great advantage. In comparison with "Nikki" is much smaller.

Mihai - thank you! Yes, the 85/2 is a neat lens. It was never on my "radar" because it's not a very "sexy" lens - no f/1.4, no super-cool bokeh, not reputation like the legendary 105/2.5. But now I'm glad I've found this humble Nikkor for cheap (99 Euros is a fair price for a good user copy with clean glass).

Mishu, great portrait! Nice to see you again.
Scott, I like your first farm scene, but it looks like you have the same grey sky issue that makes outdoor winter shooting here in Ohio challenging, but I like the way you made it work with the white fence and red barn, nicely bookended by the bare trees.
Chin, this (Ohio) Ray likes "red wings" a lot too, though you've had so many excellent pics recently it's hard to pick just one "best".
Peter, the shot and PP on Thesen House is just the right treatment for that subject.
John, the light on the ferry shot is way cool. Super job handholding at 400mm.

I remember the days of Kodachrome 25 and 64
I also used the Fujichrome sometimes just to be different
Great deep colors from all of them
Thanks for the memory

My very first attempt to add a 2x converter to my 300/2.8 :

#1 : D800, AI-S 300/2.8N + TC-200, 1/250", f/8, 100 ISO, hand held.

#2 : D800, AI-S 300/2.8N + TC-200, 1/1250", f/8, 1000 ISO, hand held.

#3 : D800, AI-S 300/2.8N + TC-200, 1/2000", f/8, 900 ISO, hand held.

Thank you Ray!

Georg, good price for European market. I paid a bit more for my copy, as well in a good shape.

You did really great! Especially considering a MF long and heavy lens... this is a real performance.

Sar, nice bird of prey series with the 2x on the 300. My fav is #3.

Went with a couple of friends to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, to get some shooting in this grey January weather. Got some interesting ones. All D700, either 20 f3.5 AI or 105 f2.5 AIS.

Texaco, w/105mm

Railroad Snow Plow, w/105mm

Lobby, w/20mm

DC-3, w/20mm

Ray, love the DC3. My second favorite airplane of all time (and my favorite model to fly...radio control was my first big hobby).

My DC3/C47 in Asian airline attire... Not taken with anything Nikon though, hope y'all don't mind. It had a 5" wingspan and electric power.

Rafael, really nice! I like the one in the sun more because of the highlights but the one in the shade has more vibrant colors

Thanks everyone for kind comments on Leighton's house and the paradise birds, I have found many a tractor and house for Leighton but he is not moving to California.

Chin, very focused hitman, very abstract artsy staircase, Red Wings is pure art

Ray, did you decide on 135 or 55?

Interesting flora and fauna Andy

Reagan, the 24mm works really well on DX

We are seeing Cicadas from Andy in Cairns and from Jose in Brazil, not sure if Jose is south of the equator

Nice work with the 180mm Ken

Very impressive mural composition Philippe

Peter, I own a 500mm 8.0 and do not like the OOF, but the last photo is quite good and you cant see it. I also own a 28mm PC and I also don't like it all that much, it works well enough even on a D800, but well enough does not cut it, it is very sharp in the center and may be better in DX

Georg, love the 85mm pics of the ark and the lighthouse, be sure to get a mate and get on it before it is too late

Samy, colorful and translucent windows. Thanks for showing the 35mm 1.4 and the 20mm UD. I would love to own an NC

Hakan, very unique composition of the archaeological arch

Steve, thanks for showing the KC ASA 25, from1995 no less, made me cry, enjoyed the leica tales, would have loved to see their faces. England has such history in their buildings, here we build cheap and tear down

Very sunny picture of your buddy, Buddy - sorry about the separation

Thanks for showing the UD Chuong

Quite a pro portraits Mihai

Great subject and OOF Philipj

Scott, sell the barn, move here

Sharp little falcon Sar, Incredible focusing skills with a TC and the 300mm

Like the Ford museum, particularly the DC3, where was the Tri-Motor?

I have not taken pics all week, just working, went to two peaks to get the sunset, we finally had some clouds, after weeks of totally clear skies, 80 degree weather and 10% humidity.

Had one of my least favourite lenses on, the 28mm 3.5 PC, wanted to test it for landscapes at infinity - the results on the D800 were passable, not great.

I colorized two of these pictures as the sunset was a little dissapointing, would appreciate feedback on the added colors. It is OK if you like it or not like it - but I am interested in your reaction;

Handheld Sar? Wowsers, bet you never had a drop of coffee in your entire life
The third one is just jaw-dropping!

Rafael, they look very good to me. A bit too hot in some but that would be definitely cross the border on being picky. Are you using Color Efex for these?

Rafael, thanks! Definitely I like very much your first picture. Not only for its natural look but for everything. I'd try a bit a HDR process... only a bit...
