... and now for something rather different...

Mesquite Dunes, Death Valley. D800E, 105mm 2.5 AIS, 3 shot horizontal pano, 1/250 @ 11, ISO 100, tripod. Other interesting EXIF element: Altitude -120 feet (but I can't vouch for that).

Mark, the dunes are outstanding. I really like the rather muted graytones.

Some fun with the leaves today. I have never seen so much in the backyard. Gonna be a pain to clean up though.

All of these shots using the 35mm 1.4 AIS is very inspiring. It truly is a Nikon Classic. Although many complain about it's jittery bokeh, I for one absolutely love that about this lens. It also is a very sharp lens and provides excellent color.

Thanks George. (georgms)

I liked to call those leaf shots from the Noct water shot over moss, "gold coins" They sort of look like gold coins when they pile up, and add some definite interest to water shots around the Smokies the last week of Oct. :-)

Appreciate it. I actually wanted to spend more time here, and I let myself get ran off by a fat redneck b*tch smoking cigarettes at a national park site. I get so sick of that. I just retreat and go find myself somewhere alone to shoot. In this case, I spend most of my 2-3 partial days near Tremont area. Much less congested than the normal tourist holes.

Mark, the dunes are marvellous and the curves are very sensual. Great shot.

Doug, I loved the water shot. Pity about the idiot at the park site. I can't remember who said that there are a lot more horses asses than there are horses, but he was right

The Df is intriguing, but really only for the D4 sensor in it, I do event photography and the D800 is just too many pixels, too much time processing. Looks pretty, but I would far prefer the D4 sensor in a D800 Body. I love my F and F2s, but a digital camera is a digital camera and the ergonomics of my D3 or D800 are first class for digital photography.

This is Nikon's publicity photo, note the 55 1,2, one of our favourite lenses. Curious that they processed this photo with such harsh contrast

It does look lovely with that lens attached Rafael.

I don't know what to think of this camera. Part of me loves it and part of me wishes it was a little bit more ... or maybe a lot more

I'm hoping it is a success as they might build V2 of it in a year or so and give the people what they want ... including interchangeable VF's etc. Nikon aren't exactly Fuji-like when it comes to listening to customers so I'm not holding my breath.

While I would have rathered the 36MP sensor, I could happily live with 16MP, but too many other features seem crippled on purpose like the D600. The D600 I can understand at it's price point, but the Df is at a whole different price level and I feel it should of had more focus points and a faster shutter at the very least. Probably a better AF system as well.

I will take my 50/1.2 down to my local camera shop and try it out though just to see how it feels. Who knows ... it may feel perfect with these lenses mounted on it.

Royston, I like your leaves-shot a lot. Great idea, I just have mixed feelings about your processing. But that might be just a matter of personal taste.

Rafael, I'l love to attend your focusing-course. The make-up-portrait is wonderful, I prefer it over the angled version a few pages back. The 55/1.2's gentle skin-rendering is perfect for this kind of work.
