Can't agree more Kevin. I often think of the talented photographers on this thread when I am out shooting. Their likes and passions. How would they see what I am seeing. What a motivation and inspiration it is at times. Then you come across a scene that you know will just be right for someone in the group.

Ray, looks like you and your 50mm are getting along really fine. Do you feel the need for larger than f1.4 at this focal length? (Not that "need" should be any kind of determining factor). Have really enjoyed your last couple of posts with the 50mm.

Maybe I should take my own advice on the next outing and carry only one prime.

Eric, Leighton, Steve, Chuong, Scott, Samy and Ray - thanks for your comments on the fence-shot!

Chuong, yes, I'm a bit surprised by the neat 85/2 Ais so far. I've used it on a number of occasions so far and don't regret the purchase.

Chin, I really like your poetic take on the butcher's backyard.

Ray, nice set with your 50/1.4K! My fav's are the hat and the off-center window - love the soft rendering.

Andy, I like your work at the Botanical Garden with the 55/3.5 a lot!

Hakan, the "Red Dot"-image is an eye-catcher for sure! I like the Morocco-market-scene too.

Nikos, love the soft light on the old Cat, teamed up with the dramatic sky in the background it works very well.

Samy, the PC 28/3.5 has a steep learning curve. In my opinion your latest shots with this special Nikkor belong to your best work.

Thank you Ray. I have really taken to your idea of one lens per outing
I am not at all sure that I "NEED" a 1.2 over the 1.4? I did really enjoyed using Jay's 55 1.2 and I am a bokeh junkie so I am confessing that it is more of a want than a need.
Ken is going to let me use his 50mm 1.2 when we get together so I can do a little comparison.

Thank you Samy and Georg I appreciate the encouragement

That is the reason I got the 50 1.2 ais. I love bokeh too. It is the sharpest 50mm, the fastest one too. You can make some pretty bokehlicious shot with such a small dof.

I like fast lense, just look at my profile

For those interested there's a 45/2.8 AI-P EX+ on KEH for a reasonable price:
http://www.keh.com/camera/Nikon-Manual-Focus-Fixed-Focal-Length-Lenses/1/sku-NK06999048930J?r=FE

I think I paid a tad less than that for mine, but knowing what I know now I'd happily pay the $450.

Is it sharp across the frame wide open on my D800 - no, but in the central 2/3rds it's plenty sharp and by f/5.6 it's sharp across the frame except for the last wee little bit of the far far corner. It's worth it's IQ/size to weight ratio. I have it on my D800 most of the time as there is no real penalty for having it on the camera instead of the body cap.
As some of you know I took the images for our family holiday card with that lens which are some of my favorite images of our family.

Just trying to lighten your wallets a bit now that you've paid off your holiday bills . . .

I don't need any more lenses. I don't need any more lenses. <Trying to not read John's glowing recommendation on the 45 P>

Nikon FG, with the 10.5cm f2.5 lens mounted. Taken with the D800 + 55 1.2 S. Now wait, how do I know the images of door knobs and magazines I took today were in focus, correct exposure, the depth of field I was looking for, heck even a reasonable composition How did us humans survive for so long without instant gratification??

There is a copy of the 45 P for sale at my local camera store. It is selling for less than KEH, but it is a silver copy. I don't think it has everything either, but it was a joy to play with on my D7000 when I had it.

Ray, nice reflections shots, especially the first one and I liked the hat on the chair with the 50 1.4 K lens.

Chin, very interesting story, very nicely told too, and great image to go with it.

To add to the conversation about other members of this thread, I do think about (enviously) Reagan and his coastal Florida photos and his near daily reminders of the temperature there, when I step out into the January cold here

Georg, thanks for your encouraging comment, a big part of the fun from this thread is the learning experiences I have had.
