James, very interesting shot. Good eye on spotting the delicate droplets. Will have to keep my eye out for them.

Kevin, good news indeed. I really like the FX format and have been all FX for awhile now. I would give serious thought to the D600/610 for FX, since you have a past history of pain with heavier camera gear; every little bit helps. Of course, you can go even lighter with DX but then you are giving up FX. If you are going to continue to use mostly MF Nikkors, they will be all FX so no gain to be had between DX/FX. BEst of luck with the decision.

I am back to life, family comes home during the holidays and takes over like a storm, really good times, but no photos, I am very deliberate when taking pictures and cannot perform under duress.

Will start commenting with Sir Edward Elgar's pictures, very alive Peter! those were the times!

Jose, one feels present when looking at your fireworks, and right there with the spyder

Eric, I feel guilty that San Diego has been in the 70s all along the holidays, your pictures freeze me!

Jeff, your San Diego sunset at the beach with the 16mm is fantastic!

Samy, what a stained window! The 85mm does it justice.

Ray in Ohio, snow like sand.

Philippe, a Citroen in the dark like old times.

Steve, congrats on the 50-135

Don, the 58mm 1.2 shines

John, what would life be without your sunset panos

Beautiful sunset Ken

Andy, enticing Cairns beach pano, what's the cicada doing in winter? Love the guitar player portrait, very expressive hair

Leighton, I missed your Iced Art.

Ray in Florida, just amazing composition and color

I ended the holidays in Dana Point, 70F.

The watch was purchased a few days ago in Hong Kong (sold out everywhere else!), but just got around to taking some snaps today since I had to wait for some good difuse sunlight to come through the hotel windows here in Kuala Lumpur.

Thanks Rafael, that's my youngest playing the guitar, he's more a bass player but needs must.

Re the cicada - It's not winter here (seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are the opposite of Northern Hemisphere) it's summer in Australia now.

However, just to confuse you more, Cairns is in the Tropics so while the rest of Australia is baking hot and dry here we are about to enter the Wet Season aka The Monsoon Season. Still hotter than the rest of the year but lots of rain, 95% humidity AND 35 degrees celcuis !!! (winter here - April to Oct is sunny, dry and 20 to 25 degrees C)

Andy

My second time here, the first was actually to walk over on the island
Sakurajima is an active volcano, plumes rise all the time
And ash falls all over the city regularly
My friend used to stay just where this photo was taken
Laundry outside wasn't such a great idea...
Bags and bags of ash are neatly packed and stacked up outside homes and stores
Was told that a collection company is contracted to pick 'em up once a week

Leighton Nice photo of Tess, somehow I missed it at 1st.
Georg Lovely impressionistic water scene.
Scott Nice but cold looking shot of the barn in snow, great snow exposure.
James Remarkable macro shots, I've never seen anything like that ice!

85mm f/1.4 AI-S lens cap
Even a center pinch version is not secure in the bottom of the HN-20 shade. However, a trip the a food store yielded a plastic lid that works great at capping the open end of the lens hood.

Kevin, thanks again for sharing your insights about the Reflex' tripod-collar!

Rafael, nice set from Dana Point - my fav is #2 for it's framing.

Ronny, I like how the flower "escapes" from the dark background.

Andy, very nice guitar-player-portrait.

Sebastian, coll lokking watch and nice take with the PC 85 on it! I have to admit I'm one of those watch-less people

Chin, nice shot of that ol' smoker ;-) It look's really dangerous with the dark clouds over it.

Jay, nice hood-cap! I really like Op-Tech's "Hood-Hat" for large sunshades (have one on my AF-D 85/1.4).

Got the 85/2 Ais yesterday (together with a mounted EOS/Nikon-adapter and a 52-to-77mm-stepping ring). A neat lens, it handles very well and my copy is in pretty good shape for it's price.

I've shot just a few frames with it - sorry, no cool bokeh-play (found no interesting details during a short walk through the local city-harbor).

At f/4 the 85/2 Ais is really sharp and contrasty, have to check it out further and from a tripod.

The same subject with the 24/2 Ai wide open, focus on the chain - love the fast 24 ;-)

The 24 renders kind of like the 50/1.8 E and the 35/1.4 wide open. I like all the shots. Wish I could download your compositional skills into my brain.

Georg

I should look into the Op-Tech's "Hood-Hat", thanks for the tip.
My snack lid is pretty inexpensive, and comes with 14 microscopic cookies (2.5 servings) , so you wouldn't need to photograph with low blood sugar.

The 85mm looks pretty good, congratulations.

The 24mm f/2 has a strange focal quality, the last shot shows a 'nervous' background with out of focus lights showing a bright outer ring, a sharp foreground chain link, and curiously the water looks in focus at some middle distance.

Thank you everyone for the comments and likes. It was about 3 degrees F when I took that. Georg, I struggled a bit with leaving that horizontal shadow in but I am glad you liked it.

James, beautiful ice droplets.

Andy, nice pics from your April outing.

Georg, love the harbor series and the architecture.

Chin, lovely mountain pano.

Thank you all for the nice comments and likes!

Georg - I love the shot from 2009, wonderful colors. I also love "Stadthafen" with the 24/2. Give us a report on the 85/2 when you get the chance.

Scott - The barn is great! you got the exposure spot on.

Jim - Good to see you again, love the way the ice drop is hanging on.

Ronny - This may well be the best flower shot yet!

Andy - Thanks for sharing some of the family, this is one of the things that makes this thread special.

Rafael - Good to see you as well, you live in a very beautiful location.

Sebastian - Great watch shot, but what is the 85/2.8

Don - Love it! I think the Noct suits you well. I also like the processing of this one.
