Andy: very impressive macro-set!
How do you experience MF focus on D800E (difficulty focusing ? ) ... don't know what you had for camera before
but I have the D700 and consider getting a new camera in the near future
and consider D800-E .. but have heard that it is not as forgiving as the D700 on MF Focus
Had plans for a DF .. but now I don't think I get one for it's pricing 4300 U.S dollar in sweden ;(

Great shot Georg, Chin, Leighton and Dan

Hey Ronny, have had 2 d700s, the first one was after the d300 and the ff for macro was great as I could actually "see" macros in focus whereas it was a bit of guesswork with the d300.

But generally the 800e is fine for MF, I always do it by eye but having done a lot more mf recently have made note of the green dot and it seems spot on compared to what I see in focus.

Of course the fastest mf i use is 2.8 (don't use my 50/1.8 ais really so don't count that one, needs a re grease - the focus ring is real loose and the throw doesn't seem big enough) so I couldn't say how it is with a 1.4 or 1.2.

Andy

Note - I always get my bodies from HK off ebay, not had a problem yet, straight through customs UPS/FedEX (anything over $1000 should be subject to import duties) The df on aussie ebay is around $3k

Thanks Andy appreciated
Have some Zeiss lenses that are 1.4 and 2.0, but I feel they are not as difficult on high aperture on D700 .. so they should work about the same on a D800-E, I think ... but I don't know where it is so much more MP on the D800 and unfortunately I don't know anyone who has the D800 so I could try out
Well it would have been good if it get straight through customs .. However, I know many who got customs duty for their things... In Sweden you most customs duty over about 60 dollars and then it is duty 6.7% and VAT 25% on the entire value

While doing some AF fine tune calibrations, I decided to check out the performance of this little nikkor 43-86 f3.5 zoom that I picked up (practically) for a song.

I was astonished at how well it performed, even wide open, on some test shots... So I decided to use it as my first contributing photo to this thread! (Don't mind the lens exif Info, I always forget to change the settings in camera!)

I can't remember any images on this thread taken with this lens, thanks for sharing it. Not bad considering that this is "supposed" to be one of the worse Nikon's out there.

What's your name BTW?

Yes, it's reputation is probably the reason that I got it so cheap!

I'll be CLA'ing my beater F2 this weekend (the reason I purchased this lens was to pair them together,) once I finish with it, I'll run a roll through and we'll see how it truly performs!

The name's Nick, btw!

Nick, Great photo! I, too, have the Zoom Nikkor 43-86 3.5 Ai but barely use it. It is probably the best looking, but least expensive lens I have.

It seems like a good lens, but the focal length on DX is really odd for me; I like my 50-135 3.5 better. I keep moving it from body to body and bag to bag.

Maybe I need to explore this little lens a little bit further.

Perhaps so! the 65-129mm equiv. with the constant f3.5 sounds like the perfect little street shooting portrait lens... Perhaps, I need to investigate this further on a DX body!

Thanks for the reminder on the Black Eyed Peas, almost forgot this year!

Happy New Year to all my friends on this thread.

One New Years resolution is to join the best internet thread I've ever looked at. I first saw it six months ago at about page 2900 and have followed it to date. I also started reading page one and have made it up to 1250.

I shoot a D800 that has a 24-70 attached and a great set up but not a lot of fun. I bought a D700 that's totally dedicated to MF lenses and pretty much take everywhere.

We are from Polk County Fl. (I think MDOC is my neighbor ...) retired and are lucky to have been most places in the lower 48 in our 2001 Vette, so when we see the Golden Gate, the Blue Ridge Mtns and other great shots posted it brings good memories. The ability to pack smaller MF lenses has proved a good thing and sure as heck makes photography more fun. We're lucky to have Marshall's Camera in Auburndale which the "CDC" say is the center for NMFAS.

Hope to upload more in the near future. These were taken fwo days ago, from an airboat on a cold day on Lake Kissimmee, causing the gators to be a bit sluggish and bison don't run very fast in the water.

Andy - More nice macro work. I like the second and last ones the best.

Georg - Very nice shot, but I like the B&W one I saw on Flickr better.

Dan - Lovely portrait of lovely girls. I assume they are your's?

Scott - Thanks! I liked how her head was tilted a bit.

Chin - A great capture and a great write-up!

Thanks Leighton. The girls are my nieces. They are always so patient when I'm learning new photography stuff such as external lighting. I'm finding working with strobes introduced a whole new form for me and you can get very creative.

Ken, great shots! I was born and raised in FL, so airboat rides and gators bring back some fond memories... Although I must admit, I never knew we had any bison down that way!!!
