Wow, 12hrs with no updates on this thread?

I took the 600mm lens out this morning to try it out. It was hard to focus while handheld. I missed focus on this shot because I was still doing the one shot at a time habit. Still, I love the lighting on it.

Congrats on that photograph. Even if the focus is slightly off (or put it this way, I would have preferred the emphasis on the birds head) the lighting more then makes up for that.

Itīs one of those pictures that, from lighting, composition and color would be one I would print and hang on my wall.

No updates from me because Iīm making some illustrations rather then take pictures. Itīs raining outside. Not much to take pictures of

You just need to get some tubes for some macro shots. Plenty to shoot inside, you just need to look.

Thanks Leighton, Samy and Ray.

Buddy, loved the last shot of dog + bokeh;
James, what a great portrait of the katydid.

Two days ago after sunset these clouds showed, so I "enlisted" the old 20mm UD for the job:

Strange clouds after sunset with Nikkor-U.D 20mm f/3.5 by labecoaves, on Flickr

D600 + Nikkor-U.D 20mm f/3.5 F ai'd supported on window sill, ISO 800, f/5.6 at 1/10s.

I was lazy to use a tripod, so needed high ISO and even I added some grains just for the "atmosphere"

I own both a PN-11 and PK-13. I prefer using an AF lens with those though. The AF 70-210 f4-5,6D. Itīs marvellous with the tubes (even with both tubes stacked itīs plenty sharp and has great clarity)

I did not have much luck with the PN-11 and the 105 f2,5 P.C. Might search for a 200 f4 Ai micro Nikkor.

Thnx Jose, I also really like the somewhat funky bokeh. Reminds me a bit of fairy dust

I really like your cityscape shot. The clouds look like someone painted them on there. The 20 U.D Nikkor would be interesting for me if it had a 52mm filter thread rather then 72mm. Not sure if I want another big lens in my kit.

Hey MF guys! I am looking to complement my 105 2.5 Ai with a wide prime. What do you guys suggest? Somewhere along the 24 or 28mm would be ideal, but I wouldn't mind 35 if the optics is better. Thanks!

From personal experience and from what I have seen here there are a lot of good solid choices available.

On the top of the list for most is the 28 f2,8 Ai-S. I donīt own one. I do own the 28 f2,8 Ai instead which is also a fine lens. Most Nikon 28mm lenses tend to have really good rectilinear correction and contrast as well as edge to edge sharpness.

Rattymouse on here uses the 24 f2 Ai-S to make outstanding photographs so could very well be on the short list as well.

35mm lenses seem to be a bit of a mixed bag though. Maybe someone can chime in and give you some first-hand impressions and recommendations of the 35mm lenses.

If budget is not an issue, go ebay, use BIN on a good 28mm f2,8 Ai-S and donīt look back

Thanks solitaire. Looking around at KEH, they have a 20mm 3.5 "UD" and 20mm f/4 that meet my budget. What's everyone's opinion on these two lenses? I appreciate the help.

Overrated. I want one

I think the strong points of the 20mm f4 are itīs compact size and the ability to take 52mm filters.

In regards to optics the 20mm U.D seems to be highly regarded here. Curtis really likes his copy and I havenīt heard any of the others owning this lens complain about it.From what I gathered (I donīt own either because I generally use an AF lens for anything wider then 28mm) the 20mm U.D has less light fall-off and better corner sharpness compared to the other 20mm lenses.

If youīre willing to deal with light fall-off in PP just pick up the 20mm f3,5 instead. Costs less and does most of the same the 20mm f4 does.

I could barely reach the ledge edge because of the railings. So what I did was trigger the auto-timer, stretch out and place the camera resting on the edge, nudge it into position a lil', all the while keeping two fingers twirled around the strap
