I'm so slow sometimes

I just worked out that the 135 f2 on a DX body becomes the same as a 200mm ish f2.0

Now that is a weight off my shoulders

JD you might think that it's an upgrade for the 80-200 from 4.5 to f 4.0. But the f4.5 is one of the best and sharpest nikon MF zooms. I have both. And am convinced that the f4.5 is the better lens

So if you do "upgrade" keep the f4.5 too

After all. It's all part of kit building.

IMHO of course

Steve

Steve thanks for the info. I heard someone else say that also. I have a number of other lens's and upgrades I plan to do well before that one so I may never get around to it lol.

Here is one more from the park with the 50-0135 3.5. Just a funny photo, not sure what caused the panic but the organized line of feeding pelicans formed a nice road block. by the end of it they were almost stacked on top of each other in front of the pelicans

It is hard to be creative with this lens, I have posted many pictures here before, will repost a couple for you, small but you can go to flickr if you want to see more. Bought it because a wanted a semi-exotic for my collection, but it is fun to take for a spin once in a while. As it is my most uncommon lens is a 15mm 5.6 ai or maybe the 600mm nippon kogaku 5.6 P.

JD, very nice work with the 50-135. You need to use it more.

And Steve is right about the 80-200 4.5 being better than the f4. Just make sure it has the square baffle on the aperture end.

Thank you Leighton, as an engineer trained in optics and imaging algorithms it is easy for my head to wrap itself in a circle.

Note that the sunset is an illusion as stated, the photo is real, the cloud colors are not, I made those.

Got an hour in the botanical gardens yesterday between drop offs and pick ups (3 teenagers in the household !)

Took the 28/2.8 ais and 55/3.5 ais. Great thing about using these lenses as everybody knows - 1 on the camera, 1 in your pocket, and that was a pair of what they call "stubbys" here, a small pair of shorts !

Here's my attempt at some lens porn.

Here is currently my main MF Kit: Though I only take one of either the 500/4 or 200/2 and most often neither. The 135/2.8 is often substituted or left out now that I have the 180.

Taken with the 35/2.0 "O" lens

Back Left 500/4.0 P, Back Right 200/2.0
Back Center Zooms. front 35-70/3.5, left 80-200/4.5, right 50-135/3.5

One more... "Pretty Colors and Shiny Things", 300/4.5 wide-open again. I had this lens Ai converted at Mora camera in DC years ago. The owner really liked it, was kept in near-mint condition. Lots of use at airshows and wetlands. But it never got banged up.

Thanks Leighton, I plan to use the 50-135 3.5 much more. It is sharp and has nice color, contrast and good bokeh. My 80-200 4.5 does have the square baffle, I think I heard a few here say that was the one to get.

Thanks for the comments and likes on my pictures all.

Some great shots tonight.

Andy, love the the set, but the first two are my favorites! And yes, that's one of the advantages of these MF lenses, small compared to their AF counterparts.

Welcome Brian, good to see another Virginian on here! Looking forward to seeing more from your Df.

BTW, how did the 300 feel (balance wise) on it?

This is a heavy lens- classic brass and glass, and is of course front heavy- like it is on the F and F2. I got used to supporting it around the lens' tripod mount a long time ago.

The lens that perfectly balances this camera is the 55/1.2. I'll pay more attention as more lenses get used. Have not tried the 500/8 and Vivitar 600/8 Series 1 on it yet.

Great last few pages of images!

The wonderful night time images from several of you folks have been inspiring me to try my hand at night scenery.

Here's a few from Baltimore, all taken with the 28 3.5 PC. As usual the shifted images show up its weakness near the top, but this is such a fun lens I don't mind its asymmetrical approach to sharpness
