I just scanned through the link but didn't see any mentioning of "the other direction."

I guess I misunderstood the question.

Click the link at "While you're at it, you might also want to add the minimum aperture signal post at the correct position." It shows how to determine the other direction.

Peter and Ray, thank you for the quick response.

The min. aperture signal post is not available on my D300. I guess its a gimmick added to the D3000īs and D5000īs that donīt meter with manual lenses anyways.

The reason why I ask this question is that I own a lens converted this wa and it works perfect but with one little quirk.

Iīm talking about the 55 f1.2 S.C

All apertures read and work fine except f1.2.

When moving the aperture ring from f2 to the marking f1.2 there is a half stop click for f1.4. This works perfect and the camera shows f1.4. Next I move the aperture ring to f1.2 and the camera still shows f1.4. As with most aperture rings I can move the ring a bit past the last marked aperture (f1.2 in this case) and only then does the camera show f1.2. The aperture blades however are fully opened at the f1.2 marking which the camera shows as f1.4.

Metering works correct. When I move the aperture ring from the half stop (real) f1.4 click to f1.2 the camera shows f1.4 but adjusts the shutter speed with half a stop.

Itīs just a quirk and doesnīt really bother me since I operate aperture rings by feel rather then look at anything my camera tells me (Iīm too lazy to choose the correct lens from the list of non-CPU lenses anyways) but I was just wondering if this is in any way related:

Or is it the other direction I should look at? The table states the cut should extend to the f5.6 marking +2/3rds of the distance to the next marking. On my lens itīs more like f5.6 +1/2 the distance to f8.

That doesn't look like 5.6 + 2/3 to me. It looks like 5.6+1/2 so you might be able to file it off some more.

Here's mine, it registers f/1.2, my home made conversion.
Turns out the lens I fixed with a paper clip is an early version 105mm f/2.5.
Taken with a D800 and 55mm f/3.5.

Jay - That's a very nice clean cut. Looks like it went past f8 though.

Jay, what did you use to obtain such a clean cut? Did you mill it?

Ok on 1 camera but not the other so must be 1/2 stop too far!

Thanks! Of the 210 I shot, I have narrowed it down to about 60 shots to deliver. I need to put them onto Flickr... I like some of them, but not all. I have the worst self-editing eye, I usually dislike most of my work...

Here is a smattering of the shots I took for the campus. Most often on a tripod, utilizing my B+W polarizer. Impossibly blue sky already, not a lot done in post with the colors. Taken with my most used lens, Series E 50mm f/1.8.

Hughes Stadium... Was the only one there for most of the shoot. Was cool!

3-image stack. Was to be larger, but PS didn't like something with the bottom most image and couldn't get it to stack.

Hi Ron. I like it a lot! My only nit pick is the black sky in the upper right edges seems a bit faded or is that cloud cover? Nicely done.
