Steve - more excellent images

Ben - the 400mm is perfect for bird images - esp[ecially "old birds"

Sam - very nice renedering of the flowers

Chin - your prose/poetry is as good as your images and makes them very meaningful

Jay - nice car shots

Alan - congrats on little Malachi - he's a beaut

Rafael - the 15mm saga was worth it - lovely images

Ray - your lady looks like good fun and the band and bar images are reaqlly good. The 300 EDIF is a great lens - one of my best - and you do it justice.

Jay - very nice car and beautifully captured. Tack sharp!! ( to coin a cliche )

Georg - excellent series. I think the lady form Alaska smoked a pipe!!

Scott - I think the lens is a keeper. Nice shot.

Ray - I like the car images. Is that an Impala or a Biscayne? We used to get them all out here as both GM and Ford have had assembly plants in SA since the 1920's.

Andy - very nice images of a brute of a car.

Geoff - the tweed ride images are fantastic. They could be stills from a "turn of the (19/20) century" TV series. Among the very best ever on this thread, which says a great deal. Well done.

Heh georg, I don't know why but I immediately thought of tiny people struggling with strands of pasta, instead of thick thick steel cables
Also never quite noticed the 20mm was such a fantastic performer, everything just pops

Geoff - nice set! For me the colour ones seem to work better than the sepia tones.

All views gratefully accepted, as I'm very mixed about this.

Clearly there are technical flaws but then I think it works. But then I see the flaws again. I don't know. The main thing I love is how strong she looks, in contrast to some other shots I've done (of other people) that tend to emphasise vulnerability.

Mix of flash to right and gelled video light to left.

What a treat it is to see great images from parts of the world I've never visited.
Those temples, huge pipes wrestled by heroic men, and scenes from England all in one thread make visiting a pleasure.

Here's yet another car in the same parking lot, at least it is not a Ford this time.

There's a 4 image rule??

We suggested some time ago that to make the thread more accessible that it would be good to limit individual posts to four images AND that folks would not simply quote entire collections of images when wishing to comment on one or tow, but only include those images in response to a post. That requires a bit of skill in managing the quoted post, removing unneeded text and images, but again, we hoped to reduce the amount of material that needs to be uploaded by those among us who don't have hi-speed internet.

Clearly, those we guidelines rather than hard fast rules. Some posts need to be bigger, for example Rafael's recent collection of shots taken with the repaired 15mm lens. All of the police men and women on this thread have retired so no one will get a speeding ticket for doing what comes naturally.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. The actual day was September 27 and that marked 72 years on this planet. Here's a photo taken by an eleven year old son of a friend who hosted a party for me on Sunday... with a point and shoot, hence I offer a link rather than a photo.

Curtis and Sue

I'd remind everyone that posting links when sharing photos taken with anything but our much prized Nikon MF lenses mounted on Nikon cameras is the preferred approach. I appreciate that newcomers in their enthusiasm to participate may wish to share AF shots but that really is not what this thread is all about. In fact, our good friend Dean created a thread on the Nikon forum for those folks who hang out here but who on occasion shooting with AF lenses. That thread is now the third most active on the Nikon forum. I guess we just have to admit there are a bunch of very talkative folks hanging out on this thread...

Fantastic Peter. What a beautiful family. No doubt you're enjoying yourself given your expression. How wonderful that you can make that trip from time to time to visit them all. Retirement definitely has its advantages, at least so long as we have a bit of spare cash to indulge ourselves. Wonderful!

I'd love to comment on all the great work being posted on this thread but that would eat up the rest of the day and I have laundry to do... But before I go I believe I should post a couple of images to demonstrate that I still have the strength to lift the D700 to my eye with a lens attached. These were shot with the 105 f/1.8 AI-s during a visit to Via Deva, a shop in San Rafael that specializes in imported furniture and art work from the Far East. The owner is always happy when I take photo and share them with him. I expect some will end up on his website, which is fine with me. My fun is in taking and processing the images.

All shot hand held and I believe wide open. Black and white conversions were done with Silver Efex Pro 2.

Last shot was slightly desaturated.

Enjoy everyone. I promise not to stay away for so long...
