Just some more notes on the handling of the 105 f4 T.
It doesn't exactly balance well on the D800, its narrow and light. The base is the normal width for the Nikon F mount, but the rest of the barrel narrows down to its 34.5mm front cap size, making for a tiny front element. The aperture ring is in the front, with a limiting outer ring at the edge, and the actual aperture ring that moves freely just behind it. The scalloped focus ring is right behind the aperture ring, so one has to be cautious not to change the aperture while focusing.
In the 28 3.5 PC, the general idea of the front preset aperture ring is the same, but the focus ring is a lot narrower, so there is little chance of nudging the aperture while focusing.
