Sometime I really think that some Ebay sellers tell their wives that they will sell a few of their many lenses. Then they put a ridiculous price on them so no one will ever buy them

thanks for rubbing it in . I have seen a number of great images with this lens that included the sun. The coating on the front element is damaged so badly, even with the light behind, the image is quite soft in the center.

No reply from the seller yet. Will take it to Paypal tomorrow I think.

Here's another one - side lighting where the lens coating isn't quite as badly scuffed, and heavily de-fished in CS6 using just the adaptive wide angle filter

I am so sorry that this lens didn't work out for you Peter. I had followed that listing thinking if the price was low enough I would buy it for the aperture ring but the bidding got to high for me to take that chance. Good luck resolving the issue. Obviously it should have been advertized for parts only.

If things don't work out Peter PM me and I may take it off your hands for parts purposes . . . trying to figure out if I want to try to chip one of mine and a spare mount, ring, and rear flange may come in handy. Plus the innards, if not screwed up by whomever took it apart (or tried to), may come in handy too.

seller just responded - claims he didn't notice these things and will take a return. So, hey, learned a lesson. Happy ending, although no cheap 16mm f/3.5 in my lens bag. I'll keep looking.

Ben (Boston) and Rafael, excellent images in the last couple pages. James, I really liked the decay pics. The Avro Lancaster by molson was also very nice.

Rafael, all the best to your near and dear.

Some more work with the 105 f4 T to try out its bokeh/OOF characteristics. All at f/5.6 where I am curious what its 9-bladed, interesting aperture shape does to the image.

Some reasonably-priced MF lenses here:

http://www.allgoodfriendcamera.com/nikon-nikkor-45mm-f-2.8-p-ai-s-ais-lens-1.html
and
http://www.allgoodfriendcamera.com/nikon-zoom-nikkored-50-300mm-f-4.5-ai-lens-55038.html

Prices are a bit on the high side, but not bad. Have not come across a black 45/2.8P in a while (I bought the last one I came across).

Just some more notes on the handling of the 105 f4 T.

It doesn't exactly balance well on the D800, its narrow and light. The base is the normal width for the Nikon F mount, but the rest of the barrel narrows down to its 34.5mm front cap size, making for a tiny front element. The aperture ring is in the front, with a limiting outer ring at the edge, and the actual aperture ring that moves freely just behind it. The scalloped focus ring is right behind the aperture ring, so one has to be cautious not to change the aperture while focusing.

In the 28 3.5 PC, the general idea of the front preset aperture ring is the same, but the focus ring is a lot narrower, so there is little chance of nudging the aperture while focusing.

Good for you - glad they did the right thing. I'll keep a lookout for the re-listing to see if I can pick it up cheap for spare parts.

David, missed your post of the chairs and pumpkins with the 85 1.4 earlier, both images are very nicely done!

Tom, waiting for your latest stock of film to develop, that should speed up this thread a bit, its been slow lately

Chuong, also missed your new coming acquisition. Welcome to the long tele club and look forward to seeing those images!

At least I am scared of going wider than 20mm, and satisfied with the 400 and 500 at the long end, that's certainly help put bounds on the affliction

You got it.

I was staying in Chatham and just spent a cold, windy morning driving around. These birds were hunkering down in the deserted parking lot.

Later went to the cute little bookstore on Main Street in Orleans. Nice little town.
