Sometimes, to reduce the minimum focus distance on my MF telephoto lenses, I use the Nikon PN-11 (very practical with its excellent built-in tripod collar).

Southern Boobook (wild owl) :

D800, AI-S 300/2.8N + PN-11 + TC-16A, 1/200", f/8, @7200 ISO. Hand held.

Never thought to use a TC with an extension tube. What order are you using, lens-TC-tube? Great shot.

Yes, Lens-TC-Tube. This order gives the best results (I don't know why !?!).

It's strange the adjustment period to your schedule changes. It's going to be hitting me hard next week.

I agree the 180 is a must have. It is also a popular lens and finding one is excellent shape but at a decent price can test one's patience. If I don't find one in the next month or two I may go to KEH and pick one up.

Here's another from Thursday while I was waiting for the hummers to show. 200/2.0 @ 2.0

JD, I bought my 180 from KEH as a "bargain" rated lens for $300.00. It looked more like an EX- rating.

Good to see you on here again Andy and congrats! That makes two alumni with the Df, Ron being the other. Great shots to introduce it with.

How do our beloved lenses work on it?

As of now, for the first 28 hrs I have 28 pics on the meter

Ray, the turkey's look ready to eat.

Sar, That's the sharpest image I have seen coming from the 200 f4. The Boobook is so close it in the AI-S 300/2.8N + PN-11 + TC-16A it is amazing.

Chuong, Wow, you are getting into gimbal head and industrial support territory with the 600mm cannon. It's probably too late to warn you, but shooting birds is like a very addictive drug. Pair that with a MF Nikkor addiction...you may want to look into a local 12 step program. :-)

Leighton, A turkey "ball"? Love all the smiles...

Congrats Ron on the Df.

JD - I know your pain. That 200mm f2 bokeh is magic.

Georg, LED's cycle like flourescent light bulbs. Learned that just recently shooting some cars. The headlights on some were a steady blurred line, while the tail lights had the strobe effect of a dotted line. Has something to do with regulating the flow of electricity.

Jose, great handheld work - I love seeing barbules on the feathers.

Peter, what a gorgeous sky!

I was waking up with some coffee this am - when I saw some ice covered pompous grass waving at me through the window. I thought..."The whole point of an f2 lens is to shoot at f2", and since Ronny is the one that turned me onto this huge hunk of glass...I added a 12mm extension tube in his honor. Well, the bokeh looks awesome to me.

All of these are at f2.0 with Nikkor 135mm f2.0 ai

The snow has decided to stay.

I revisited the sunflower field with the 200 f4 micro. Then a couple images of some bittersweet. Lastly a b&w conversion of an intensely blue sky, bare trees, and snow.

Thanks for looking.

Greetings from the Danube shore Andy! And congrats for the new toy!

Would you mind to share a bit about its viewfinder and how "pure" is the MFing experience with this camera? Eventually in comparison with D800.

Thanks in advance!
